Carnatic Music in Edmonton, Canada?

I will be moving to Edmonton (the capital of the Western province of Alberta, Canada) this fall, and I was wondering whether any of the rasikas in this forum know of CM activities there. I have heard of the Edmonton Ragamala Society, but their main focus is HM. I would love to help establish a CM community there - any rasikas willing to join me?

Ashwin: I have fond memories of Edmonton, Alberta and it will always be a special place for me. That is the first place I lived out side of India. Though winter there was colder than my wildest dreams it was compensated by beautiful summer and fall. That was more than two decades back. There was an active CM community then (I recall listening to KVN there) and I had heard it has gotten only more active. They do conduct thyagaraja aradhana. It is a big university town and the music department there had some interest in Indian music. I hear there is a full fledged temple now and I am sure there will be CM activities in the temple.

You might want to contact the Ragamala Society: http://www.edmontonragamala.ab.ca/. They're into hindustAni music however have featured karNATaka sangIta concerts as well and may have contacts.

Good Luck with your job Ashwin and good hunting for CM Rasikas... There must be quite a few at Calgary too!
