Vid O.S.Thyagarajan - Vocal
Vid V.Sanjeev - Violin
Vid "mridangam" Mannarkovil balaji - mridangam

Venue - Seshadripuram rama seva samithi, Seshadripuram college, 25 Apr 09, 6.30pm

1. karunimpa (varnam) - sahana - adi 2 kalai (brief alapana)
2. enduku nirdaya - harikambhoji - adi - thyagarja (swara @ enduku nirdaya)
3. narada gana lola - atana - rupakam - thyagaraja (alapana, swara @ narada gana)
4. eti janma - varali - misra chapu - thyagaraja (alapana, neraval & swaram @ sagara sayanuni thyagaraja nutuni)
5. anuragamuleni - saraswati - rupakam - thyagaraja
6. kaligiyunte - kiravani - adi 2 kalai - thyagaraja (alapnana, neraval & swaram @ bhaguga sri raghu ramuni padamula and tani avarthanam)
7. lekhana - asaveri - adi 2 kalai - thyagaraja (brief outline)
8. slokam - virutham - kujantam rama rameti madhuram madhuraksharam - surati, hamsanandi, ananda bhairavi
9. rama bhadra ra ra - ananda bhairavi - badrachala ramadasa
10. nadupai palikeru - madhyamavati - thyagaraja
11. ni nama rupamulaku - sowrastram - thyagaraja

A nice well presented concert, ably supported by sanjeev and balaji. varali and kiravani alapana were great, and developed in a well structured way without any rush. There was no unnecessary sangathis anywhere in neraval. OST sang all charanas for enduku nirdaya, and also for ramabadra ra raa. swara singing for atana and harikambhoji need special mention, there was no lengthy swaras or kanakkus. I enjoyed the concert pretty much. If i were to comment on couple of things i didn't like - he choose all thyagaraja keerthanas! Even if wants to sing rama songs for ramanavami series - he could have selected other composers/languages too. It was all thyagaraja, rama, telugu all throughout (except for ramadasa keerthana). In the varali neraval - few times OST split the word as saga rasayanu and thyagara janu... The sahityam need to be taken care properly during neraval. I am not sure i heard sanjeev before, but his accompaniment and raga essays were great. Balaji was his usual self, providing good support, and short and crisp tani avarthanam for 10 minutes in the end.

hari,
Looking at the list, I wondered why it was all TyAgarAja krutis. Supposing others had planned their concerts too that way, it would have been a lengthy tyAgarAjA festival for Ramanavami series in Bengauru. While it is apt to mark the event with a few krutis on Rama with the songs of the greatest among rAma bhaktAs, you wonder if that is the idea. All the same, very good selection of songs.
Balaji comes to play in Bangalore and I miss hearing him...

Arasi - right. OST is singing in Rama seva mandali - fort high school on Monday. Let's see what is he singing there!! Irrespective of rama / thagaraja theme, or oft heard songs - the content was rich musically and classically. So, issue is very trivial for me!!

Also, in varali alapana - he did shruti bedam. I couldn't recognize the raga though.

yes, rAmabhadra is in telugu - but not a thyagaraja composition.. So, all keerthanas on rama and in telugu... except composer

I don't think graha bedham can be done with Varali, as far as I know.
Some experts in this forum, please elaborate.
