Interesting twist! mAnji in your sympathetic verse sounds akin to what people make mukhAri out to be (a far 'cry' from what mukhAri really is like) and may I add, she has majesty and depth? and in my view, she is not proud!
You give yet another word I have not come across before. So, what sort of a sister is husEni?

mAn sE, abhimAn sE
rachAyE kavitA apnI
rAgini par kavi Srini
idil mAindu pOvALO
mangai mAnji? illai
magizhndiruppALO?
With affection he called her
affabrous--
She may lack a lexicon
But knows of his affection--
So long as she knows not of
kharaharapriyA and a slew of
other maidens that he serenades...
Nick, sorry, the first two verses in hindi and tamizh are difficult to translate, so I wrote some lines in english for you. May be there are others too, but you for one read our verses...

grAmIya nangaiyin naDam
'magizhndEn' enum pOdu
mAindu pOgavum vENDumO?
The ode writer better claim his muse before others carry her away. Or, is he busy penning one about another damsel?

I don't think anyone will attempt a mAnji (even just a kriti with not even a short sketch preceding it) without knowing how it's different from bhairavi, mukhAri or husEni. And if they know how it's different, they'll show the difference as best as they can: they can in the sense they'll do it in the best possible manner that occurs to them in that concert.srinivasrgvn wrote:The context in which I have written is that people do not make an effort to distinguish these ragas when they are singing them.
