Ranjani Gayathri/ H. Bhaskar/ Arun Prakash
May 14, Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapathi Devasthanam, Flushing NY
Went into the concert a whole two hours late thanks to the traffic steaming into NYC on a nice sunday afternoon. Walked in just as the RTP started.
RTP - Begada - Ragamalika swarams in Varali, Khamas, Behag.
Virutham - followed by karuNai dEivamE (Sindhu Bhairavi)
Entha Punyave Gopi - Purandara Dasa
A Bharatiyar krithi I wasn't familiar with.
Abhang
Bhagyada Lakshmi Baaramma
Mangalam
Main piece was supposedly the Swathi Tirunal piece "Ramaramaguna" in simhendramadhyamam.
Fantastic RTP. Sensational alapanai, and the ragamalika swarams were spectacularly executed alternately by the sisters in different speeds, without being overbearing. Violinist was excellent. Virutham was melodious and haunting. The rest of the concert were filled with their usual suspects....Hope to catch them ahead of time in Philadelphia this weekend.
