If you thought that the ability to sense rhythm was unique to humans, think again. A new study has revealed that parrots have this talent too! Read on for more:

Don't miss the videos. It is such a treat to watch those dear birds dance to the beat.

I wonder if they can keep Mishra Chaapu :) Maybe someone with contacts in that university can take it up with the researchers.

We have parakeet and Cockatiel. They are very sensitive and start rhythmic churping once they hear a good raagam with beats; this is especially true when we have bhajans at home.

I just wish to recall an email from a member of the Tokyo(Japan) Flute Mali Group a few years back who wrote saying he starts his day by playing a Mali excerpt & when he opened the window a bird not only showed up but stayed on & listened to Mali on almost a daily basis. VKV

Man is quite pretentious , isnt he.
Well, quite! What always gets me about these news items is the surprise. What would be surprising would be to not find intelligence, rhythm, emotion, etc etc in other creatures!

But then, it would also be surprising if watching parrots dance did not make us happy, and I love to see these films, and to hear stories like vkv's Mali-loving bird :).

I remember two kittens that ran and hid under a cupboard at my poor attempt to play a flute!

vAnam mARavillai...

Yes, RT, that's the line: paRavaiyaik kaNDA vimAnam paDaittAn?
