Aishwarya Shankar gave a brilliant blemishless concert for Saraswathi Vaggeyakara Trust celebrating Syama Sastri Jayanthi. In spite of being a hot Sunday afternoon, the hall was sufficiently packed and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the concert.
Song list:
1. Parama Pavani, Atana, Adi, [s]
2. Amba Kamakshi [swarajathi], Yadukula Kambhoji, Misra Chapu
3. Kalyani, Ninuvina gathi gaanu, Adi
4. Trilokha natha nannu brovu, paras, Adi
5. Bhairavi, Sri lalithe kanchinagara nivasini, [nilabja dala lochani]
Personal Notes:
1. Aishwarya, still in her teens. exudes great confidence and a solid paatantaram. All thru the concert, she relished singing every sangati that belonged and getting it exactly right. A perceptive member of the audience remarked, "Iva enna romba varshama padaraa madiri paadara".
2. This swarajati is relatively less heard of than the ones in Bhairavi or Todi. Just the quiet and grandiose way in which she started it and carried it through was enough to make me sit up and enjoy it all the way thru.
3. The neraval for the Bhairavi kriti was phenomenal including the mel kalam which evoked spontaneous applause from the audience.
4. The violin exposition of Kalyani and Bhairavi was wonderful. During accompaniment, the violin sounded a little harsh at times.
5. Mridangam accompaniment was soft and provided the right poshakku for the performance.
