It was a fantastic concert. The teamwork was extremely good. I'm glad I didn't miss it.

The tala for the tiruppugazh was a little different. I do not know the name of the tala, but it was like this:

Kanda chaapu on 2 fingers + 1 plain beat + waving thrice in the air. (Apologies if the description sounds weird but this is around the best I could manage)

Overall a superb concert.

Edited my earlier post.

@ s_hari : for the posting... it was indeed an amazing concert... and i'm glad i played in it...

@ maithree : regarding the thiruppugazh thaalam... that is just 2 kandachapus and 2 drithams... thats all...
(2 1/2 x 2) + (2 + 2) = 9 aksharams...

and thanks for the explanation for the song... i was wondering why all of them are laughing... :D

thats such a nice list.
i have personally heard Sri Vijay Siva sing the RTP in maNirangu in madras once, and it still lingers in my mind.

the tALam Sri Vijay Siva puts for the husEni tiruppugazh is 2 kaNDa cApus and one kAkapAdam (one beat and 3 waves) and he once said it is called vishama tALam.

That was one cracker of a concert at PS High school. Sri rajagopala was the main piece, followed by the RTP in Manirangu. A concert I can never forget all my life.

Here are my impressions. Chittaswarams were sung for gurjari keerthana, but, i wasn't able to make about whether he sung graha swaras. As per SSP, chittaswaram for this keerthana is to be sung in graha swaras also. I have heard the begada keerthana before, and he sung this keerthana in december season, and in recent hyderabad concert. The neraval and swarams were apt. Anandha bhairavi was given a very classical treatment, and with charulatha on violin, he got very good support. Kalyani was sung very elaborately, close to 15 minutes. The day being pradosham, he chose right keerthana. Before the concert, i sensed that some VIP is likely to visit, seeing security arrangements, and CM Yediyurappa came in during kalyani swaras. Then came, sathyavantha in bhairavi, making crowd laugh and clap - since CM was seated in front. I was very happy when he started Manirangu alapana, i didn't anticipate a RTP, thought he will sing iko nama swami of purandara dasa. RTP was brief, alapana, thanam, pallavi, swara, each took about 5 minutes, and thani was for about 10 minutes. So, in 30 minutes, RTP was over, and it was around 8.45pm only. I think, he would have curtailed for the speech and facilitation since CM was around. It seemed as if artist was asking organizers whether they wanted him to break for the speech after bhairavi, nalinakanthi songs. Trikalam was done in all 3 speeds, and swara was sung in 1 kalai, and vijay siva returned back to 2 kalai while completing pallavi line. No ragamalika swaras were sung. Sathish & Gopalakrishnan provided good support throughout. There were few chits sent him, may be, he picked most of the songs from that? Vijay sang tiruvazha tiraiyazhi in recent hyderabad concert also, and it was nice hearing that again, as i heard it for first time. I don't remember hearing MS's version - she is reported to have sung this piece during srirangam samprokshanam. Surati tillana was also new to me, i think, it was uthukadu subbaiar composition, with some thisram patterns coming in charanam. Slokam was sung very nicely in viruttam format in 3 ragas, compensating for lack of ragamalika swaras in RTP. Gopalakrishnan - thanks for the information on the thala of thirupugazh, i have missed out other angas of thala, and noted only kanda laghu. The concert lasted for 2hr 45 minutes, thankfully, speech wasn't that long, completed with in 10 minutes or so. I would have been extremely happy if RTP was given more elaborate treatment with a compromise on post-tani numbers.

Whenever I think about vijayashiva I immediately associate mAmava pattabhirAma , this rtp must have been lovely. If I am right even TMK a week or so back sang manirangu main for the same krithi, bangaloreans are indeed lucky.

Me too! A concert to cherish. A soulful saundara rAjam AshrayE from that concert still lingers in my memory...
