Guru Vandanam for Calcutta Sri K S Krishnamurthy (KSK)
Organised by Carnatica at Raga Sudha Hall
Smt Suguna chose to sing compositions she'd learnt from KSK. List of songs:
nA mIda (varNam) - janaranjani - Adi (KSK)
SrI mUlAdhAra cakra - SrI - Adi-2 (MD?)
nI mati callagA - Anandabhairavi - Adi-2 (Kavi Matrubhutayya)
nA manavini vinavayya! - cakravAkam - Adi-2 (Garbhapuri quatrette) - RNS
mahima dakkincukOvayya - riSabhapriya - Adi-1 (T) - R
inta tAmasamayite - sAvEri - cApu (T) - RNST
kaDaik kaN pArvai - khamAs - Adi-1 (PS)
tillAnA - bhImplAs - khaNDacApu (?)
nI nAma rUpamunaku - saurAShTram - Adi (T)
SrIkAnta kalyANa - shlOkam in madhyamAvati
The majestic SrI piece was sung to its full weight, as was the Anandabhairavi. The cakravAkam kriti had a good AlApanai, great neraval and a good round of swarams. I know riShabhapriya ONLY from gananaya dEsika and found the AlApanai a little hard to place. MAK introduced a lot of Parur-style brigha in his riShabhapriya.
The sAvEri was indeed the highlight of the day. It flowed so smoothly, it was like just spending some time with sAvEri. The koraippus ended in an in-between beat. The final korvai was also very different and nice.
Mannarkoil Balaji on the mridangam played with superb anticipation for the kritis and very inspiringly for the manOdharmam parts.

The 'SrI' has to be appended after the first iteration of the pallavi - see http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php? ... atica.html
