Raghu mama was an inspiration, a legend and a great soul. It is indeed sad to hear that he is no more to regale us with his math wizardry on the mridangam. My deepest condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace.

End of an era... one of the all time greats. Listening to his inspirational accompaniment for KVN's shri subrahmaNyAya namastE as I type this. There will never be another like him...

Oh man this is hard to swallow, Raghu sir has always been one of my favorite Mridangists. Unfortunately I never had the chances to meet him in person, but his mathematics on the mridangam was simply stunning, something nobody in the field of mridangam can match.

A great loss to the carnatic field indeed.

Generations to come will scarcely believe that such a colossus of laya strode the earth. What a great privilege in my life to have listened to the maestro on numerous occassions. Certainly not in my place to comment or condole. Just bow in respect and awe.

The earliest exposure to CM i can recall is the immortal kvn-vvs-pr lp, recorded during their US visit back in the '60s. The tape continues to be the closest to my heart. Wonder if those moments of percussive brilliance could ever be reproduced. As inconsequential as I am, i have nothing to say in this context.

His style was a wonderful amalgamation of Tanjore and Pudukottai school. Along with GNB & KVN he has given numerous memorable concerts. He was a mark of perfection and precision in laya. He could adapt to any style of singing without compromising his individuality. I have a rare recording where he has accompanied MMI for a mohanam pallavi. The combination itself was so interesting as he follows MMI's sarvalaghu like a shadow and the solkattus that he used are so unique and highly imiginative! No Wonder he became the first choice of GNB in 50s and 60s!

Raghu sir's playing for Ghana Raga Pancharatna krithis / Kamakshi Swarajathis are still lingering in my ears. Long live his glory!

Very sad to hear the news.

In the youtube videos of him, his clarity of thought, confidence, humility and cheerful manner were quite evident.
I sensed a certain peacefulness about him which I am sure is a result of being a very contented man.

A great loss to humanity indeed. Condolences to the family, friends and rasikas.

Sangita Kalanidhi Sri Palakkad Raghu at his best - a tani Avartanam in tisra Eka [2] after a rendition of shri subrahmaNyAya namastE by Sangita Kalanidhi Sri K. V. Narayanaswamy and Sri V. V. Subrahmanyan.

Imagination, control, power, proportion, nAda, aesthetics, the complete package. Raghu Sir, you are sorely missed.

How many such magic moments must Raghu Sir have embellished with his subtle artistry? An emotional varugalAmO from Sri KVN. The charaNa is especially heartfelt and intense in this rendition. His sense of aesthetics and where NOT to play, is especially visible here...

Sri Nedunuri and Sri PR had a very special rapport. The Nedunuri - MC - PR was an awesome comnination. Similarly Voleti - PR and KVN - PR combination was a treat. Fortunately there is a spendid National Prog video of Voleti - MSG - PR which has a wonderful thani.
I think it was the MA concert of Nedunuri (with PR), the year Nedunuri was awarded SK!!, PR declined to play the thani and announced that he dint want to break the momentum of the concert. What a concert that was, Akilandeswari was the main piece.

Prashant,
I am drowning my sorrow by listening to the Nedunuri-PR FAS 2005 concert. We were lucky to have witnessed those two magicians live on stage together one last time !!!.

What a great loss !!.

From the same concert, alamElu manga nIvabhinavA rUpamu -bhairavi. Some beautiful ideas in khaNDa Capu especially while playing for the pallavi - http://www.sendspace.com/file/e06e1j

I am sure listening to these treasures which you and Coolji have put up, becomes the only solace for us still not able to come to grips with this loss. Thanks, let the brilliance of his playing lessen our grief.

Incredible accompaniment for the niraval and swaras at 'kumAra guruguha mahitam'. Imagine matching wits with Sri KVN and Sri Lalgudi in their prime, without upapakkavadyam support!!! Sri Raghu carries it off with such elan. The whole concert is a must-listen with Raghu Sir in amazing form.
