Hi All,
Since there are so many knowledgeable persons here, why can't the rasikas community create an open-source e-book (completely free, non-commercial, no ads!) which can be freely downloaded by anyone? I'm pretty sure that a lot of persons will be interested in such a project.
The project can be divided into multiple phases:
The PLANNING PHASE in which we decide the following:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. What goals should be achieved?
2. What should be the contents of the e-book? It would be nice to come up with an index first.
3. What are the means of online collaboration (wikis, google docs etc)?
4. Where will it be published?
5. What are the different roles a person can play in the project?
(Authors, Editors, Hisorians, Technical Experts, Archivists, Language Experts, Translators etc.)
6. Who will contribute, and how?
7. Who runs the project?
The IMPLEMENTATION PHASE during which:
------------------------------------------------------
1. The contents are authored individually.
2. Submitted for peer review.
3. Peer reviewed and approved.
The COLLATION PHASE during which:
------------------------------------------------
1. The submitted content is put together into the e-book.
2. Any graphics, logos etc are added.
The QA PHASE during which:
------------------------------------
1. Loose ends are fixed
2. The book is reviewed as a whole before publication.
Let's hear what you all think.
Why not an open source e-book on Carnatic music?
