Having been down with the flu, I was unable to attend all the concerts and apologize for the fact that this update comes a little late and covers the proceedings of only May 30th .
Sri. JA Jayanth, grandson and disciple of Vidwan TS Sankaran, presented a flute recital in the company of Tiruvarur Smt. N. Balam (violin) and Sri. Mohanakrishnan (mridangam). Sri. Sankaran’s presence on stage made one reflect on his role in nurturing the talents of his grandson and, in a broader sense, on the vitality of a tradition in music performance and teaching. This was indeed the first time I heard Jayanth. His expansive essays of Malayamarutam (Manasa etulortuney) and Kalyani (Ragam, Tanam, Pallavi in Adi Tala) revealed technical virtuosity in abundance. Splendid teamwork was in evidence during the RTP segment. Sri. S. Kannan (secretary of Rasikhapriya) remarked on Jayanth’s prodigious talent and recalled an instance where he had confidently played the raga Devamrutavarshini even as a seven year old! The post-tani segment of the program was short and featured a very enjoyable "Kaatrinile varum geetam"

VK: Thanks - I’m OK now.
Rajeshnat: I had forgotten to write down the words - thanks for the lead. Apparently, MKT had sung the song in the movie Rajamukti. Nice that Suryaprakash chose to show case this gem at his concert.

Nandagopal,
Hope you are fine now. Thank you and Balaji (in the other thread) for the reviews from Kolkata.
Balaji's mention of the hospitality of the folks from your city speaks of the richness in culture your city offers...
Surya's concert can energize one, no doubt.
On MKT: Raja Mukti was his own production, the one which marked his returning to the scene after his sojourn in the Andamans. The mere mention of his name gives me goose bumps. The few times I have met him as a child, I was struck by his kind heart and dignified demeanor.
And his singing!

PL ALLOW me to be a bit nostalgic: My last activities before I left for USA in 1959 were:arasi wrote:

On the day before I left, (caught the Bombay mail) I went to Gaiety Talkies & saw Raja Mukti (MKT- I agree totally with your remarks about him) & Thyaga Bhoomi(SIVAN); In the evening I SAW the one & only C.R.-C.Rajagopala chariar- at BEACH (in front of I.G'S Office- he was kind enough to talk to me for half an hour & advised me to stay in USA & not return to India. His advice has come true & I am still in USA tho' my heart is still in Chennai!...I cannot think of a better "Trifecta" unless I had met Koteeswara Iyer, Thygabrahmam(on his way to Kovur(?), and Shivaji(who had actually visted a temple in George Town- proof is in the ceiling of that temple) in a Parallel Universe theoretically possible according to Physics!....VKV

VKV,
So nice to hear of the unforgettable hours you spent in India before you left for the US.
The nice thing about the forum is that many rasikAs who are much younger to us are keen on listening to these stories to get an idea about how times were when the musicians that they love to listened to lived. Of course, we seniors like to take walks in memory lane any time!
