Dr.Ganesh
Melakkavari Thiagarajan
Mannarkoil J Balaji

A torch bearer of Maharajapuram Tradition Dr.Ganesh gave a breezy recital for Rasikhapriya, Kolkata on 31st May 2009. Sorry for the delayed posting as i thought some one else will post the concerts as i heard some of our members came to the concert. As such nothing came so far so i ventured to write about 3 concerts that i played. I will post all three concerts as a separate threads. (one by R.Suryaprakash and another by Smt.Vijayalakshmi Subrahmaniam)

Dr.Ganesh's concert list :

Gajavadana Beduve- Hamsadhwani-Adi
Velaya Dayavillaya-Saveri-Koteeswara Iyer-Adi
Salagallaladu-Arabhi-Tyagaraja-Adi
Kanavendamo-Sriranjani-Rupakam
Paratpara-Vachaspathi-Adi-P.Sivan
Raghuveera Ranadheera-Huseni-Rupakam-Tyagaraja
Sangita Samrajya -Adi-Mohanakalyani-Sringeri Bharathi Theertha Swamigal
Sri Krishnam Bhajamanasa-Thodi-Adi
Miscellaneous items

Dr.Ganesh started off brightly with Gajavadana Beduve with brisk swara patterns bordering on the sarvalaghu of Madurai mani Iyer and the lilting melodic flavour of Santhanam.

Most of Dr.Ganesh's swara passages are replete with sarvalaghu patterns occasionally mingling with mathematical varieties not to the extent of overdose.

His Raga Alapanas were brief and rich with classicism. His thodi certainly stood out as one of the best i heard in the recent times.

Melakkaveri Thiagarajan played was a perfect foil for Dr.Ganesh's method of singing. He gave various hues in Arabhi and Thodi Alapanas.
On the whole the concert was an enjoyable one.

Now about the sabha. Mr.Kannan who is the secretary of the sabha takes a lot of care about the artistes. The concerts were well organised and the crowd turnout was not poor though not really encouraging. Twice a year this sabha conducts concert series and this year Charulatha Mani, Jayanth (Flute-Grandson of T.Sankaran-his kalyani was fantastic), RSP, Vijayalakshmi and Dr.Ganesh. The sabha's hospitality is worth mentioning and their co-ordination in pick-up drop off of the artistes were excellent. (I will post the other two concerts separately as i dont have their song list right now)

Thank you so much for the "ring side" account of Dr. Ganesh's concert.. I really missed not being there but I'm sure there will be a next time soon.. Look forward to your post on Smt. Vijayalakshmi Subramaniam's concert. Thanks again..

The songlist reads just like a Santhanam concert item list. :) Thanks for the review.
