can we please discuss the meaning of the above krithi by Swati Tirunal Maharaj. I want the meaning for choreography. If there is any space for sancArI or other ideas, please let me know.
I tried searching it here, i could not anything. Unless i am using a different spelling.

Here are the lyrics from karnatik.com:

Meaning posted by Meena on the net:

Oh gOpAlaka ! I submit myself unto thy feet, protect me forever. All sins are emancipated by your danity feet which are worshipped by Indra and others. Extolled by the virtuous, you astonished your mother, who looked at you angrily knowing that you have eaten mud, by performing your amazing magic of showing the whole universe, including mountains and oceans, inside of your graceful lotus-like mouth. Oh consort of SrI lakshmi, you removed the pride of brahmA, who is born of lotus: you bestowed your classmate kuCela with boundless wealth and prosperity. You are matchless and you have the king-eagle garuDa as your vehicle. Oh lord, your speech is like the nectar of the lotus. sArasanAbha, lord of the world, Ocean of mercy, you excel cupid in beauty. You repose on the serpent-king and destroyed the demon mura.

I have taken the liberty of making a few sahitya corrections. Please note them.. this a lovely song, rich in potential for abhinaya; also the solkattu-s and madhyamakAla-s can make it very interesting..

pallavi

gOpAlaka pAhi mAm anisham tava pAda-ratam ayi

anupallavi

pApa vimOcana pavidharAdi nata pada pallava //(gOpAlaka)

caraNam 1

sAdhu-kathita! mrd-ashana sarOsha-bhIta-mAtr vIkSita-
bhudhara-jalanidhi-mukha-bahu-vidha bhuvana jAla-lalita mukhAmbuja
(gOpAlaka)

caraNam 2

sArasa-bhava-mada-hara! satIrthya dIna bhUsurArpita-
pAra-rahita-dhana-caya! nirupama-pataga-rAja-ratha! kamalAvara
(gOpAlaka)

caraNam 3

sAra-sarasa-suvachana! sarOjanAbha! lOkanAyaka!

(gOpAlaka)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meaning -

P -
gOpAlaka pAhimAm anisham tava pAdaratamayi = Oh gOpAla(ka) ! , protect me! forever engrossed in thought of thy feet

AP -

pApa vimOcana = Remover of sin! pavidharAdi nata pada pallava = Your teder-tendril feet are worshipped by Indra and others.
(gOpAlaka)

caraNa 1

sAdhu-kathita = Praised by saints, mrd-ashana = when you ate mud,

sarOsha-bhIta-mAtr = Your mother, with fear alternating with anger,
vIkSita = saw

bhudhara-jalanidhi-mukha-bahu-vidha bhuvana jAla = the mountains, water bodies, and whole worlds

lalita mukhAmbuja = in your dainty mouth..

(gOpAlaka)

caraNa 2

sArasa-bhava-mada-hara! = You quelled the pride of Brahma[1]

satIrthya dIna bhUsurArpita-pAra-rahita-dhana-caya! = you gave uncomparable wealth to the poor brahmin who was your classmate.[2]

bhujaga-rAja-shaya! = You sleep on the snake-king [ananta]

murashAsana! = you chastised the demon mura!

(gOpAlaka)

I have given whole words with hyphens splitting the inner constituent words, and separated each compound word by an exclamation symbol..

The first charaNa, with yasoda alternating between anger, threatening to beat the child, and fear/exasperation as to what to do with this child/what if he falls sick etc, along with the wonder- vismaya/Ascarya she experiences upon seeing Satellite pictures in his mouth; I suppose is made to order for abhinaya..

notes - 1. the episode of Brahma hiding away the gopa boys, to test krSNa; where krSNa took the form of all those boys, and this went on for a year.. after which brahma realises the true nature of krSNa, apologises and returms the gopa-s.

2. referring to sudAma/kucEla, who was krSNa's classmate..

krishnaa - based on keerthi's excellent translation, there I am sure you got the 2 areas for sancAri - the eating of the mud (caraNa 1), the episode of sudAmA (caraNa 2).

Keerthi - what is explanation for 'quelling brahmA's pride' that you have marked as [1]? - if you explain that, it could offer another point for a sancAri...

Yes i got the 2 leelas of Sri krishna that could be portrayed well in sancAri.

Regarding brahmA's pride, here is the episode:
Sri kRSNa was once enjoying lunch with his cowherd friends on the govardhana hill. While doing so, the very close friends exchanged each others food and also ate together in same plates, etc. Sri kRSNa was performing his usual vrajalIlA.
When lord brahmA saw this, he was amazed and thought to himself, how can the supreme being, the almighty, the ultimate personality, purusottama, eat food in the same plates and mix up so easily with these ordinary cowherds?
He wanted to test Sri kRSNa. it is sayed in the puranas that the lord's mAyA had attacked lord brahmA.
Thinking thus, lord brahmA stole the cows and calves. When the cowherds noticed that their cows & calves are missing, Sri kRSNa decided to go look for them. When Sri kRSNa went away, lord brahmA even stole his cowherd friends and hid them in cave. Sri kRSNa came back, he understood that this was lord brahmA's doing. After all, he is svayam paramAtmA, there is nothing hidden from him, he was just doing naralIlA.
at once, he expanded himself into all the cows, calves, cowherds, their pharaphanelia and everything...
when lord brahmA saw this, he immediately realised his mistake. He returned back the friends and cows of Sri kRSNa. due to the time difference between our earth planet and brahmaloka, although lord brahmA was quick to realise his mistake, one year had passed on earth. for this one year, Sri kRSNa remaines expanded and no one realised this in vraja dhAma. The only difference was that every parent became more attatched to their children, every cow was double filled with love for her calves beacuse Sri kRSNa had manifested himself in different forms.
Soon lord brahmA returned all that he had stolen and apologised. The stuti in which he praises Sri kRSNA is in about three to four very long chapters in the bhagavata mahapurana.

If something is missing, please do add it on rasikas...

but i think it will be a little bit difficult to perform sancAri on this lIlA. nonetheless, if there is a will, there is a way... so i can try in this area too :)

One question,
why is Indra referred to as "pavidhara" ?

krishnaa - Krishna being worshipped by Indra etc could merit a "sancAri" of the Goverdhana lifting episode.

pavi is thunder/thunderbolt = vajrAyudha.. hence indra = zeus who wields the rin detergent logo!

krishnaa's story is the one I had in mind too. actually, i gave those numbers in parentheses[following in your footsteps], intending to give explanatory footnotes.. forgot all about it till you mentioned note [1].. :P
