Yet another interesting treat: http://sunson.wordpress.com/2009/07/13/ ... c-music-4/

I know last time it turned out be harder, but this one I think should be easiest although we may use some "deduction" skills to arrive at it.

Any comments/opinions as before are always appreciated! If possible, please comment on the blog

Note - answers are on the post itself and "hidden" until revealed. So to let others enjoy the post, please do not post the direct answer here - please do not be "that friend who blurts out the raga before we can figure it out" . I just want people to enjoy some rare pieces (atleast what I think are rare - may not be rare to all) and get their own individual satisfaction in getting the raga.

Thanks
Arun

I did not get the singer and instantly and wrongly got the raga as its very close cousin .

I fell into the same trap! I found it to be the allied raaga which is famous and would not fit. Though I have heard the MD kriti I could not link. When you are ready explain to us the similarity and difference of the ragas. As for the singer though I have heard him in person long ago I could not recall. Good selection!

I have heard this particular piece several times, so it was quite straightforward for me.
MDR's rendition of the varnam in this ragam is great.
Semmangudi has also sung the Dikshitar kriti in this ragam.

I prefer this ragam to its so-called cousin 'K'.

Whenever I listen to this varnam by MDR it is never once, it is at least 3 times before I can move on to the next number. Some one in some other thread was talking about MDR's music being analytical and lacking in bhavam, if any rendering of a varnam can move some one so much then this has to be the one.

One of my favorite ragas! I have the other popular song in this raga by the same singer too and it often pops up in my playlist. There was also an awesome rendition of this raga by Balaji Shankar but I'm unable to find that recording.
