Chandana Charchita -- (Jayadeva) sung by Subhiksha Rangarajan is exquisite.

Priya in the Grand Finale of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa does a great job

Other renditions by Bombay sisters and Priya sisters fall behind. There is an excellent Orissa style rendition - more austere - that I think maybe O. S. Arun once did on a demo -- on styles....also to be heard by brilliant priest/singers at the Gaudiya temples.

Yes, that is a powerful performance by Pooja. Mohanam, right? One of the judges mentioned names like M.S.V, Mahadevan, Suseela etc. Is this a song from an old movie?

Chandana Charchita is an ashtapadi - taken from Jayadeva's magnum opus, Gita Govindam. The actual verses start.... Hari Vihamugdhava Dhooni Kare Vilaasini Vilasati Kelipare.........but most artists start at the second line, Chandana Charchita Nila.......full text w/ meaning here...http://www.geocities.com/hkssv/chandana.html

Apparently a Telegu ? film Tenali Ramakrishna (1956) featured the song as well...

Here is another Carnaticized version........just as exciting nevertheless......... http://www.video4viet.com/watchvideo.ht ... nthuvarali

BTW, who is the artist ? -- pardon my ignorance....

>(how do I get a color smiley)

In your post window, look for the link "Smilies" at the top right hand corner. That will tell you what the various smiley codes are.

Chakkani Raja in Kharaharapriya and Chetah Sri in Dwijavanti are my favourites in C. I cannot express fully well how beautiful I find Kharaharapriya. I couldn't get enough of it late last year.
