I wish to get the lyrics corrected for this melodious Hindi Bhajan, sung by Pandit Sajan Mishra & Rajan Mishra. The rag is 'Shankara" ( am I correct ? )The Audio link for this highly devotional Bhajan at the music web site of deezer.com is:

This Hindi classical song is sung in Rag. Hamir (HM) by the ever great Mohammad Rafi Saahib for the popular Hindi Film " Kohinoor"

Rag Hamir is of the Kalyan That, which has similarity with the Hamir Kalyani of Carnatic Music. Both the MA notes are sounded in this raga. The Aroh & Avaroh of Rag Hamir are:

Hamir/Hameer {Kalyan That}
(Equivalen to Rag Hamirkalyani of CM ) .
Aroh. S G m1 P N S
Avaroh. S N D PG M2 P G m1 R S

Whereas, the Rag.Shankara is from Bilawal That , which is the equivalent of CM 29th mela Deera- Sankarabharanam. The familiarity that is felt at very few places can be due to the reason that the 65th Mela is the pratimadhyama mela of the 29th mela.

Glories to lord siva who is known as sankara and who holds the gangA in his locks. He is the merciful lord who resides on kailaS and is not destroyable. He removes sorrow and gives pleasure.

Glories to one whose head is adorned with the moon and who holds the DamarU. He is the foe of the demons in the form of cities and he destroys ego. he is unique and does not have an end.
Tripura - the demons resided in three cities which was designed with full protection by mayadAnav. Lord siva destroyed these cities.

vaidyanAth - one of the jyotirlingas.

Being from kASI, i really liked the last line. it just reminded me of our visvanAth temple!!
