Great news! This means the music of the temples is given recognition by the Academy. Hope the season has a few concerts of nAgasvaram and clarinet too, so that we can get to listen to two sangIta kalAnidhis playing together!

Sangeetha Kalanidhi to a Tavil Vidwan should be commended, and it would seem that is academy extending support to Nadaswaram music, etc ..... However, I am not sure about Valayapatti's choice. Valayapatti's claim to fame is playing for Kunnakudi and the histrionics.

I like Haridhwaramangalam AK Palanivel a more engrossing Tavil vidwan when he accompanies for the krithis - the soft, deft strokes. Mannargudi Vasudevan, Sivagurunathan, ...

Meccademy has its own politics, factions and .... I am sure Trichur Ramachandran would be disappointed, a deserving candidate for this year.

Unfortunately, the Music Academy can't award all thavil vidwans at once.
