Jananee - Click on the link. Once the page loads, on the right bottom you will see a "Free" button. Click on that which will take you to a different page. I normally wait for a minute and then the download link should work after you type in the secutiry words, which sometimes is just a pain as sometime the letters are not clear.

It is very Usual. It means try the next day or pay a Premium.
Like our Indian democracy , With all its drawbacks , Rapidshare is still the best alternative around .
The comforting thought is that I have used a Premium account for uploading. So no fears of links vanishing until we are all exhausted ( or I am pushed around and made irritable, whichever happens earlier ):P

Sundar Nice to see you. What a fine artist you are ! It was a treat to watch you sitting far away with closed eyes and force yourself into the middle , once the Muse had overtaken you.
That is the point of all these Jam sessions.
Pure , uncontaminated emotions pouring out , in the confidence that there are no value judgements being made .
I will now proceed to upload from DIV 000 , Div 001 onwards at meet up with DIV 008.
Folks , Please reorganise these tracks based on number sequences.
Vijay
Can I have permission to use your camcorder for the thatwamasi concert ?

Well .All of them are ok if it is going to be on a one -to- one basis.
my reasons for choosing rapidshare are:
1.differing time zones probably makes it easier for lesser choking.
2.unrestricted number of downloads.
The highest i have clocked is 83
3.I need not answer uncomfortable questions from my wife on my rapidly changing moods.:
some sites show the link at a corner and display photographs of pretty girls in chennai WAITING for me
This is some male dominated society .... Huh !!
Sigh !!!

One simple technique is switch off your modem and reconnect again. If you are connecting through a shared connection then you may have a problemin doing that.

dammit.... I thought those girls were waiting for me! Of course, marriage was one thing, but now I have a cat I really have to behave!

Cool, I also have a vcr; not complex, but it is digital. Hasn't been used for sometime, which would mean the batteries need a good charge-up, but you can add it to the list of available equipment for the future. I don't have a tripod, though, which is essential for recording events.

A jam session is an informal gathering where musicians (or music lovers) get together and perform.

The mae-stros and the mini-stros all play together too.

Considering some of the excellence that we see from the mae-stros, it is great that they let us lesser-stros join in.

Ramraj leaves an unfillable gap. You would hardly guess he was a composer from the gleeful way that he joined in and enjoyed the performance of all us 'stros. Now I'm sad, but it is flavoured with being glad I did get to know him a little, even if it was just for a short time.

Cool,
All your swimming around the musical hoLe (in kannaDa too, so the'L'!) and you folks missing Ramaraj there makes me wonder. There is enough time between now and December for the possibility of a concert (or at least part of a jam-session) where we can hear Ramaraj's compositions? Raji Gopalakrishnan (if it is not difficult, in concert) or Vilasini?

Actually Merriam Webster recognizes it as a phrase and provides the following meaning which fits what seems to happen with rasikas jam session. But I like Cool's imagery much better.

Date: 1933.
An often impromptu performance by a group especially of jazz musicians that is characterized by improvisation.

The Etymology is from the slang use of the noun Jam to refer to a musical piece. ( I have never heard that slang usage myself )

Thank you, Cool!

V Kokilam,
My dictionary also gives the following meanings: to improvise jazz music; take part in a jam session (apart from other jams). Jam as a noun in the music context is not there. I think its old usage for a song is archaic now.

The OED dates "jam" back to 1929, referring to improvisational jazz music played by multiple musicians. The idea is to squeeze in lots of music and instruments at the same time, as the word "jam" implies. I like the faint similarity to "neraval".

gn.sn42, neraval definitely fits if multiple musians get together for a neraval session!!

BTW, you are treating it on par with "jam pack" which is to 'pack tightly or to excess".

Caution: Overanalysis begins: ;)

MW traces the etymology of 'jam session' to the noun 'Jam' with the following different meanings (and not to 'a food made by boiling fruit and sugar to a thick consistency' of course )

( 1 and 2 use the verb form of Jam to define the noun Jam. There is nothing new in the meaning of the verb form of jam )

1 a: an act or instance of jamming
b: a crowded mass that impedes or blocks <a traffic jam>
2 a: the quality or state of being jammed
b: the pressure or congestion of a crowd : crush
3: a difficult state of affairs : fix <got into a jam>
4: jam session
5: dunk shot
6 slang : a musical piece

It is up to us to figure out which of the meanings the etymology reference is for. Since number 6 is closely related, we can pick that one.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I prefer the OED to MW, and the OED is quite clear.

"jam" (noun) does not mean a musical piece but improvised music, with the sense derived from the meaning of "jam" (verb) as in "Press or squeeze (an object) tightly between two converging bodies or surfaces; wedge or fix immovably in a space" (from the Shorter Oxford, I can't access the OED this minute). This meaning of "jam" also leads to its use in fruity and traffic contexts.

gn.sn42: Agreed that it indeed refers to 'improvised music'. Wikipedia also agrees: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jam_session .

Having said that and at a nit picky level, I do not get OED's derivation for it. Their reasoning has 'less freedom, backed into a corner, immovability' kind of vibe and not the free spirit and movement that is required for improvisation. Anyway....

i would prefer having the youngster for such an occasion... one personally feels that somebody like Smt Raji should be given a free hand so that the concert can be a lot more interesting and inspiring.
