I have taken the Pallavi to mean : Why is it, dear Lord, that you have no compassion for me ?.......Please provide a translation...thank you.....

Meaning:

P: why have you become unkind to me O God

C1: you came breaking out the pillar, were tired, but went ahead and embraced prahlada, and celebrated him,
how much gold he gave, say it now O hari.

C2: without informing siri (your wife) without getting dressed (?), even without riding the garuda
you went and saved the elephant king in great hurry. How much money the elephant king gave you O hari.

C3: Is ajamiLa your elder brother? Is vibhishana your younger brother, Is rukmAngadha really your grandson?
For singing your name, are they preferred, am I unknown to you, protect me the lord of 3 worlds purandaravithala.

Beautiful kriti!!! any renditions available?

without being dressed is probably mentioned just to show the haste/ speed with which sri hari saved gajendra. it is said that when he reached near the lake, he even jumped off the back of garudan so probably just to emphasise the haste...

I have renditions of this krti by MLV [MA 1969 - non commercial], Sudha Raghunathan and Manjula Rajasimhan. All these would be uploaded to www.sangeethapriya.rog/murthy - No. 172 in a few days.

I have a wonderful rendition of this by Udayalur Kalyanaraman. He preceded it with the sloka/viruttam "Badavarolage ...". Just beautiful.
