its always better to have an "if" clause and to reply in a not-so-confirmatory fashion.coolkarni wrote:I would prefer to see one of our programs where rbharath attends as matter of certainty and guarantee.
And not on terms of "I Will Try", " will come for a few minutes" etc etc

Punarvasu,
What did I say? You weren't around. Otherwise you would have heard those popular songs from at least from some of your friends!
CML,
tenkAsiyile tEL koTTinA tiruppatiyile neRi kaTTumAm!
Sundari Bai comes from a village to see her friend Pushpavalli (Miss Malini) in cennai paTTaNam. Soon after her urban friend sings praises of her glorious urban life in a rAga mAlikai (kottamangalam Subbu's super lyrics), there is a power cut and the village damsel sings, mocking her friend: elekkaTTari (electric) viLAkkai nambi ilayap pODalAmO (okay, set the table!), taNNiK kuzhAi nambit talaiyil eNNai vaikkalAmO?
GBL and a few others may recall this remarkable Gemini film of Vasan. I don't remember most of it--I was too young
but those songs stayed with us. Gemini Ganesan's debut performance too. Another first was cartoonist Thanu's very short cartoon strip which was the opener for the film. Vasan the pioneer.

Ravi,
That was something! You made me fill in the blanks for all the words I had forgotten in the 'glory' song of mod cons in a city. Did you hear the hndOLam bit where she sings: UTTi koDaikkAnal ellAm uTkArnda iDAndanilE kUTTi varum vITTukkuLLE kuLumai tarum cooling system? Air conditioning was yet to come! That one line 'jala jalavena kuLu kuLuvena mazhai pozhiyum shower bath!' in amruta varshini. That verse about 'pAlADai paSu veNNai pazham ellAm eDuttu, pADam paNNik kai paDAmal DuBBAvil aDaittu engaL paSi tIrkka pala dESam anuppi vaikkum tinnu....inda dESam viLaiyA viTTAlum kavalai engaLUkkillai can be rewritten as 'engaL nATTup paNDamellAm Engum muDAi ilAdu kiDAikkum'...inda dESam viLaiyAviTTAlum kavalai engaLUkkillai' for those of us who live away from India.
Wish we had the song sung by Sundari Bai too, squashing the pride of this 'modern' metropolitan!
Nostalgia takes over. Sorry, Mods. This is not the thread for me to carry on.

We had some beautiful music, and I'm glad that I did not let Saligramam, or the hour, stand between me and the experience
Arvind's mridangam was great. I rather messed up on my contribution to the thani, but I hope I managed to give some reasonable support during the songs.
Many thanks to Cool and to our hosts

Looking forward to the snaps.
Aravind (I'm guilty of usually leaving an 'a' out) played like a professional; you would not guess that it was not his full-time occupation. However good the teacher and the lessons, one needs experience to play like that. It was great to watch him listening to a thillana line and intuiting the calculations in the lines to come. You would also never have guessed that he spent the previous night travelling. It was brilliant.
Ahiri's performance was full of sweetness and sensitivity. Dikshitha has a stronger voice, but also sang very beautifully. Venkat too contributed some good numbers.

I am glad it went off well. I always find these jam sessions (the couple I have attended) put me in my place - happy listening to others, keeping my mouth in the state perhaps it ought to be

Thanks a lot cool sir and nick for your kind / encouraging words. Felt really humbled to get such comments from knowledgeable rasikas.. . And as coolji said , eagerly looking forward to play a rasikas' concert .
Nick , you were wonderful all through the thani i would say , even if you dont agree to my statement . Its just the eduppu of your korvai slipped a bit in the third round and this happens to everyone
And you dont need to feel guilty at all for i write my name as Arvind only
Ahiri and Dikshita sang wonderfully and it was an absolute pleasure accompanying them with prasanna chipping in with a couple of songs..
Thanks to venkatpv and his mom for playing wonderful hosts and i just relished the karasevai...
Arvind.

Thanks for the pic and the video, cool (and the kind words, Arvind
).
I did dig out my VCR, but even though I have doubts that the batteries will hold a charge after two years of disuse, worst thing is that the power adapter has gone missing --- or we could have used it plugged in. I'm searching. In the hope of another session soon!
