IN the set of nine kritis dedicated to Kamalamba, one finds a lot of references to terms used in Sri Vidya Upasana, especially while going into details of each chakra, its name, the siddhis, etc. Hence they are rightly known as navavarna kritis.

However the set of Abhayama kritis are more general -without any specific or systematic references to the sri chakra. Then why are they called Abayamba Navarna?

I believe they are termed as 'Abhayamba Vibhakti' krithis. I don't think it is correct to call them 'Abhayamba Navavarana' krithis.

The 'navAvaraNa' misnomer may have been in part, due to the publication of sets of dIkSitar's krti-s on single deities, under the titles 'rAma navAvaraNa', 'siva navAvaraNa', 'gaNEsa navAvaraNa' etc.

And please note, it is navAvaraNa and not navavarna..
