Chi.Ramakrishna Murthy - Vocal
Chi.Rajeev - Violin
Chi.Subramaniam - Mrudangam

Here is the partial song list

1. nEra nammithi - kAnadA varnam - kanda jAthi ata thAlam
2. srI ganapathim - saurAshtram - Adhi thAlam
3. gurulEkha etuvanti - gowri manOhari - kanda chApu - S
4. amba kAmakshi - varAli - misra chApu - R,S
5. sri subrammanyAya namasthE - kAmbhoji - tisra Ekam (2 kalai) -R,N,S,T

It was a wonderful evening and this is the third mrudanga arangEtram which am attending in this month . The function started with the prayer of kum.Brinda and Arulpriya Manickavasagam (Disciples of Smt.Raji Gopalakrishnan) .

Ramakrishnan Murthy (studying engg at California university ) was introduced as a disciple of Sri.Delhi Sunderrajan and also to have learnt under Sri.Vairamangalam for a couple of years.

Rajeev , disciple of Smt.Kanyakumari , whom i have heard a couple of times before , played his part really well and supported beautifully.

Subramaniam , a disciple of vidwAn Sri.K.S.Kalidas played wonderfully. All the kritis were rendered crisply by R'K'murthy and subramaniam ( all of 14 years old ) played some awesome stuff , effortlessly reeling out some solid palani anna's stuff.

I especially liked the misra nadai and the standard kOrvai of their school which also features in the double mrudangam thani between palani anna-sankaran sir . I saw many vidwAns in the hall like vijay siva and manoj siva, Guruvayur Dorai Sir , Srivatsa sir , PSN sir , Chengelpattu Ranganathan Sir , Madrimangalam swaminathan , our very own mridhangam (Mannarkoil Balaji sir) , Akkarai Subbalakshmi , Gurucharan etc...

I had to leave at this point as i was anxious to gt back home before it started raining again and request someone who stayed fully to complete the review.

Thanks

Arvind.

Are you sure brinda and arulpriya are students of smt rAji .I have heard brinda once and I am assuming her sister is arulpriya. She told me that she learnt in dubai few years before and presently she is under tutelage of Neyveli and Suguna varadAchAri .

Brinda and Arulpria are disciples of Suguna Varadachari.

After the speeches the main artiste sang Marukkulaviya Thiruppugazh in Poorvikalyani and Mangalam

Gurulekha Etuvanti in Gowrimanohari only. May be in urgency member might hv made some mistake

Mannarkoil J Balaji

gosh.. the venue was overflowing that day, thanks to all the invites that were distributed. At 6:45, when i had reached the place, even senior musicians and music patrons were found waiting the lobby outside looking for a seat inside. Many senior vidwans were present and m sure it must have been quite a thing for the artists on stage.

I happened to listen to a chinnanADEnA, between varALi and kAmbhOji. After loitering for about 10 minutes, i realised i couldnt anyway find a seat and hence chose to go elsewhere.

Real great evening. It did not seem to be arangetram. It seemed to be a professional concert by a trio of super talents with superlative efforts.Incidentally, was this wonderful performance responsible for bringing showers to the sun-scorched Chennai soon after the start ?
