I'd be grateful if someone can post the lyrics of this Meera Bhajan. It features in Lata Mangeshkar's Meera Bhajan album. Meaning would be most welcome too.

here is the translation:

thANe kAI kAI vO suNAvA, mhArA sAnwrA giridhAri
pUrav janam lI prIta purAni jAvA na giridhari
How many things (kAI kAI) should I tell you (vO suNAvA) about my dark hued (sAnwrA) giridhari! Our love is an old one (purANI) brought forward from the previous births (pUrav janam) which will never vanish (jAvA nA).

sundara vadana jOvtA sAjana thAri Cchavi balihAri
mhAre AngaNamA shyAm padhAro, mangal gAvA nAri
O beloved (sAjana)! your beautiful (sundara) glittering (jOvtA) face (vadana)! may your (thArI) form (ccHavi) be protected from the evil eye (balihAri). O dar complexioned one (shyAm)! do come (padhAro) in the courtyard of my house (AngaNamA) where the ladies (nAri) will sing (gAvA) in your praise (mangal)!

moti chauk purAvaNena tana mana DAra vAri
carana Sarana ri dAsi mirA ri janam janam ri thAri
i will make the rangoli (chauk purAvANena) with pearls(motI) on your arrival and i will place (DArA vAri) my heart and self (tana mana) in it too. forever protected in the shelter (sharan) of your feet (carana), your maidserveant (dAsI) mirA has been your in the previous births and will remain yours in the births to come ...

i must admit, it wasnt easy!

Krishnaa - thank you for translating this superbly evocative composition of mIrA - the visual image of her offering herself as part of the rangOli for krishNa to walk on sent a shiver up my spine.

A quick question - balihAri - I thought that it meant to offer oneself - sacrifice oneself, and in this context, I thought that mIrA was claiming that she could not help offering herself/sacrificing herself at the altar of krishNa's beauty - his luminously handsome face, or something to that effect.

Thanks Ravi!!
Indeeed, it is an amazing piece!!
you are absolutely right about balihAri.
but it also has the meaning that i mentioned, it has two meanings. usually mothers take out the evil eye from their babies using hands, that is also known as balihAri. but yes, equally even sacrificing oneself is also known as balihAri. and both of them make sense in this situation.
Thanks for explaining the word!!
