The concert was held on the occasion of Guru Raghavendra Jayanthi celebrations. The Varnam at the beginning was rendered very well. I liked the elaborate round of Swarams in particular. There were several rounds of one Avarthanam Swarams. The Dwijavanthi Krithi, becoming a bit of a rarity these days, was nicely sung too. The accompanists - both the violinist and the percussionists played beautifully here, in sync with the mood. Songs appropriate to the occasion were numerous and this drew a compliment from the organizer at the end. Personally, I liked the efforts put in by the artiste to learn songs by eminent composers in Ragams like Dhanyasi, Kambhoji, Darbar and so on, that definitely require quite some homework. The Tani was rather energetic with the Ghatam artiste chipping in with some particularly good patterns. The Shlokam at the end too was quite elaborate, for about 15 minutes. The violinist accompanied quite well throughout. I particularly liked his response to the Panthuvarali Swarams and his short version of Dhanyasi.

Sathej,
Thanks for the review. I think a concert of this nature would have pleased the BengaLuru audience too. I heard Gayatri Girish sing a thematic concert of HMB's compositions there, beginning of this year. It was a well-planned concert, like this one. It seems as though she is one of those performers who is open to expanding her repetoire.
