Hi everyone,

I am looking for the translation of the small shloka sung by MS Subbulakshmi in the beginning of the song 'pralaya payodhi jale' (dashavataram). Here is my attempt to spell out the words-

Sri Gopala vilasini valayasa
Ratna dhi mogdha dhriti
Sri Radha pati pada padma bhajana
Nandadhi magnonisham
Loke satka viraj raj idiha
khyato dayam bhonidhihi
Tam vande jaya jaya sadguramaham
Padmavati valabham

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Best wishes,

Krishna :)

I cannot understand the meaning of the first two lines, here is the translation for the rest of the verse:

This verse in in praise of sri jayadev goswami, the lyricist of the dasavatara vaibhavam

SrI rAdhA pati pAda padma bhajanAnandAbdhi magnOnisham
lokE satkavirAja rAja itiyaha khyAto dayAmbO nidhim
tam vande jayadeva sadgurumaham padmAvI vallabham

SrI rAdhA pati pAda padma bhajanAnandAbdhi magnOnisham
one who is always (anisham) immersed (magnO) in the blissful (Ananda) ocean (abdhi) of the bhajana of the lord (pati) of srI rAdhA.

lokE satkavirAja rAja itiyaha khyAto dayAmbO nidhim
one who is known (khyAtO) as the king (rAja) of the godly poets (satkavi rAja) in the world (lokE) and is the ocean (ambO nidhim) of mercy (dayA)

tam vande jayadeva sadgurumaham padmAvI vallabham
i (aham) worship (vande) him (tam), jayadeva, the spritual leader (sadgurum), who is the beloved (vallabham) of padmAvatI.
padmAvati was sri jayadeva's wife.

will try to find out the first lines also...
hope this helps! :)

Thank you for the translation of the verse! i never imagined it was in praise of Jayadeva himself.... looking forward to the meaning of the first two lines.

Thank you so much Krishnaa. Really appreciate it!

some minor corrections -

SrI-GOpAla-vilAsinI! valaya-sad-ratnAdi-muktAkRti-
SrI-rAdhA-pati-pAda-padma-bhajanAnandAbdhi-magnOnisham/
LOkE satkavi-rAja-rAja iti yaha khyAto dayAmbho-nidhihi
Tam vandE jayadEva-sadguram aham padmAvati vallabham//

i noticed krishnaa's corrections in the lyric after typing this out..!

Good work, krishnaa! You translation is faultless..

the first line is all an adjective to the srI-radha of the second line it means :

SrI-GOpAla-vilAsinI! valaya-sadratnAdi-muktAkRti-

(radha, who is like a ) pearl in the gem studded circle* of the women who loved srI gOpala..

circle* - the word used here is valaya, which means circlet and can be any circular ornament - bangle, armlet, bracelet, girdle etc..

RAdhA is said to stand out among all the gOpI-s by this line(pearl among other gems)
