accompanied by Dr. Hemalatha, Mannarkoil Balaji and Trichy Murli
She kept a good crowd spellbound with a beautifully rendered Todi (Sri Krishnam Baja Manasa of Muthuswamy Diksitar).
Balaji and Murli gave a very inspiring tani to match. Not a soul got up and left during this.

Vijayalakshmi Subramaniam is a seasoned artiste gave a fantastic performance for Tambaram Asthiga Samajam on 12-8-2009 at Sita Devi Garodia School, Tambaram
The concert was one that created mixed bag of feelings in me. It was a slow and sedate start never got to have the feel of rhtym or layam till about Oothukadu Kriti, Nan Enna thavam Seideno. that doesnt mean the songs sung previously were of lesser merit. Sometimes the artiste takes time to settle down to the atmosphere, audience, mike, sruti, accompaniments and the related aspects. Sometimes it so happens the artiste settles down right from the varnam stage itself. There is nothing wrong in getting settled and producing greater music during the concert itself. Viji did just that after Oothukadu piece i could see her as a picture of concentration and the during Thodi Alapana she could produce beautiful phrases replete with bhava ably replied and supported by Dr.Hemalatha. Sri Krishnam Bhaja manasa was a masterpiece rendered so diligently by her. Actually i was feeling that the song was taken at a slower pace and wanted to slightly increase the speed which was felt by Viji also and in tandem we increased the speed during charanam. The niraval swaras were excellently rendered and she took a theme for her melkala swara prasthara. Shetook thakita thakita thakita (tham) as her main theme for swara singing and followed it up with beautiful varieties answered very well by Dr.Hemalatha on violin. To top it all she made an excellent korvai at the end of Sri Krishnam Bhaja Manasa piece which goes thus :
The idea is this thakadhimi thakita (7) was taken as tha . dhi . ginathom and given 8 karvais for tha and dhi and then 4 karvais for gi na thom then 6 karvais for tha and dhi and 3 karvais for ginathom then 4 karvais for tha and dhi and then 2 karvais for gi na thom , completing the poorvanga and utharanga taking total of 65 split like 7 * 3 with one karvai repeated three times.

The concert was well attended and well received. It was a Gokulashtami Special concert and i earnestly felt Viji did a good job.
