It was a beautiful concert. The kritis were all neatly presented. The AlApanais of kAnaDA, kalyANi and karnATaka dEvagAndhAri were all very nice and the usual level of Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan. They were all inspiring. The svarams in chAyA gauLa were quite nice and interesting and educative. The kalyANi tAnam was very nice. The kriti was played with a quick round of neraval svarams in the charaNam which were beautiful. Smt S R Padmavathi shared the neraval and svarams and was good as well. The percussion dept was rather aggressive and could have been a little softer.

Having heard Kalpakam mami's gauLi pantu earlier that day, I wanted to listen to one in the concert too, and was suggested to ask for it if I really wanted it very badly. But my past experience with Kalpakam mami's concerts is that you get more than you could ask for.

I was discussing with another friend just a few days ago that veteran musicians like Kalpakam mami have a responsibility to save these dying ragas - as few have such a perspective on them. In this concert, Kalpakam mami did her part for chAya gauLai.

indeed. it was kalyANi. and a very sweet kalyANi.

however, i m ishtill high on suguna mami's kAmbhOji earlier in the week and cant help murmuring 'ninnu minchina deivamu lEdani' all the time... such was the kAmbhOji that day, and hence i cant help it
