That seems like an awful lot to learn in just six hours... I can't help but note that this works out to six mELa-s an hour, or one every 10 minutes :) SRJ Mama has spent over 10 years teaching the mELarAgamAlikA to me and Rohin, and we're still not finished! Im assuming its more of a demonstration than a lesson?

i absolutely agree with Ashwin. the discussion & teaching on melakartha ragas is a vast subject. i think six hrs to cover 36 ragas is too short fr such discussions.if one really wants to go in detail

I was a partcipant in this workshop [full disclosure: I am a student of Smt. Vedavalli] and found the time allotted, the method of teaching and the attention paid to details more than adequate.

I am a disciple of Smt.R.vedavalli.

The teaching pedagogy of her school is so well defined, we all at the workshop, felt very comfortable and could grasp the flow from one raga to the other quite well. In four days time we all presented it on the valedictory function before an august gathering .

Please note, I said its an awful lot to "learn", rather than to "teach" - and of course, its just my opinion. I'm very happy to know that there are those who have truly learned it in the time allotted.

srinivasrgvn: perhaps you are right, but your statement depends on the scope of the treatment and also how much you expect to derive from the composition and its constituent ragas.
