Not much of a reviewer, but since the San Jose folks hardly post the song list these days, I'll try to do it from now on.
This concert is the first of a series of concerts for the Fall Season of 2009. Was a wonderful, well-attended, almost 4hr concert. I've "question-marked" ragas in the Pallavi, since they were not announced :-P , so correct me if I'm wrong.
Krishnan provided the raga outline for most of the songs and then announced the details of the song.
Thamadham thagadhaiyya was an (elite) audience request and was obliged after the "ippova - romba late aayiduthey". Very very enjoyable as this raga almost always takes me to MMI's Bhuvaneshwariye.
Hindola Vasantham thillana was announced as a "young" thillana, recently composed by the Great Vidwan, I assumed.
Pahadi thillana seemed like Patri Satish Kumar's request.

I thoroughly enjoyed the concert and am now looking forward to the next week's TVS/Nagai/RajaRao concert.

Thank you, Chandrasekar, for the report. Was EnaTi nOmu phalamu the main piece? Isn't the hindOLavasantam thillAna LGJ's latest composition?

Thanks for that report - a very nice opportunity for them to have showcased both their father's and grand-father's compositions. Did the siblings indulge in any nereval at all?

Lji - do you have the lyrics of the sAmA varNam?

Ravi, the Lalgudi school generally does not believe in playing neravals in instrumental concerts. I think it may be because they don't believe there is any point in performing neravals when the sahitya cannot be articulated.

Thanks Chandrashekar for the review.
I had not heard Patri until last season. I thought he was extremely good when I finally got to listen to him.
There are only a few ghaTam artistes that make a big impression on me in that, however well they play, it is those who play with an emphatic (azhuttamAna) sweet sound who get my attention. One such vidvAns is Tiruppunittura Radhakrishnan. Wish I could hear him more this season. I have heard him play for TNK and others. He is very well suited for a violin (s) concert, I think.

The Lalgudi duo did play fairly elaborate neraval in PoorviKalyani on the famous lines "Madhurapuri Nilaye, manivalaye". Brought me memories of Madhura Mani Iyer singing neraval on the same lines accompanied by Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman.
