Did anybody attend the kutcheri at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. A friend of mine said it was very nice, but did not take notes and wasnt able to review it.
Thanks

It was good. Saramathi (Mokshamu Galada) and Kalyani (Pankaja Lochana) were elaborated very nicely. RTP was in Brindavana Saranga. Other songs included Sobillu Saptaswara, Jaanarohi (javali in kamas) and a song composed by Ilayaraja. Sorry I did not keep notes either :(

Alapanas by Violin Shri.Vittal Ramamoorthy were awesome.
And some where during the thanam, I over heard someone sitting next to me saying "why is he singing like in a light music".
did he? I dont know.. I enjoyed.

Intriguing. I have a friend who is a IR devotee and would be thrilled to hear this. Any more details/characterizations, Suresh? What ragam, did it sound like a carnatic song? A thukkada?

My friend says the song started with "Eppadi Paduveno" and went like "Eppadi Padinaro".

The raga was Karnataka Devagandaram (Abheri?). It sounded quite like a carnatic thukkada - I thought it could be Sudhananda Bharathi before Unni made the announcement.

Suresh, saianamika: You have now got my IR devotee friend very interested. Was the melody pretty much the same as Eppadi Padinaro? If so, is it safe to say that Ilayaraja's contribution here is more on the lyrics side than melody?

Incidentally those days musicians were confident and they sing at the end "eppaDi pADinarO appaDi pADa nAn Ashai koNDEn". :)
Now perhaps todays musicians are little nervous hence they sing "eppadi pAduvEnO".

Just kidding,I am also curious to hear illayarAja's number, and I hope this number is great.

Yes, apparently it was the same melody all the way, with new lyrics. I'm sorry my friend did not note down any of it, but she said it was really meaningful. I'm sure your friend would have loved it. If I come across the lyrics/song recording, I will definitely post where your friend can get it.
I also heard the concert was quite well-attended. I would have liked to have heard the Javali (which I havent heard in a long time) and the Ilayaraja lyrics (that I havent heard at all). Since my friend is an ardent Unni rasika, I will probably hear it some time at some other venue.

Disagree. The similarity ended with the starting words and the raga. It seemed like a nice composition and I am sure Unni will sing it again in the near future ;-)
