mInAkSi tAyE (padam). rAgA: AbhOgi. Adi tALA.
pallavi
mInAkSi tAyE aruL purivAyE malayadhvajan sEyE madurai vAzh mAyE
Oh mother (tAyE) mInAkshI, the daughter (SEyE) of the pANDiyan king malayadhvajan, the creator and remover of illusion (mAyE) who resides (vAzh) in madurai, please shower (purivAyE) your blessings/grace (aruL) on me!
anupallavi
vAnOrgaL magizhndiDum vaiyattOr pugazhndiDum vAhanai maNandAyE vAmattil iNaindAyE
You wed (maNandAyE) the fair and handsome one (vAhanai) [1] who is praised (pugazhndiDum) by all the people of this world (vaiyattOr), and in whom the celestials (vAnOrgaL) delight (magizhndiDum), and united/became one (iNaidAyE) with him on his left (vamattil).
caraNam
mahiSAsuranin shiram vIzha sheidAyE marakata mEniyoDu tavam purindAyE
makara yAzhil svara bhEdam kaNDAyE mati mukhamum sErvizhiyum koNDAyE
You caused (SeidAyE) mahishAsura's (mahishAsuranin) head (Siram) to be separated (vIZha) from his body. You performed (purindAyE) austerities (tavam) with (ODu) without concern for your delicate emerald (marakata)-hued complexion (mEni) [2]. You appreciated (kanDAyE) the svara-bhedam in the music performed on a fish (makara)-shaped [3] lute (yAzhil). You have (koNDAyE) a face (mu(g)khamum) that is as beautiful as the full moon (ma(d)ti), and eyes (vizhiyum) like fish (SEl).
FOOTNOTES
[1] vAhan is a fair, and handsome man - in this context it refers to Siva as the 'ponnAr mEniyan', or 'kunda gaura' - fair complexioned, either like gold, or the jasmine.
[2] I wonder if this refers to pArvati's penance, or to karpagAmbikai's panance
[3] No clue what the incident refered to here is - hopefully someone else can throw light on this.
