After the begada varnam, the brothers sang pranamamyaham in gowlai after a brief alaapana. the swarakalpana was short but crisp. The
sriranjani raga alapana was very beautiful . The kriti was followed by sarvalaghu swarakalpana. Gowlipanthu is a very interesting and solemn raga and they sang the tamil kriti of syama sastri.

Sri Seshachary embellished the suddha saveri alapana in detail and they sang kaala harana which is not much heard. The neraval was sung in `dinadinamunu thirigi thirigi'' . the swara kalpana with kanakku showed their strong grip on the laya aspect. The brothers then sang RTP in kalyani. Both of them shared the alapana singing. The most notable part of this was the ragamalika in niraval singing! It was a very refreshing idea and everyone enjoyed it. Raga malika comprised of Bhairavi, dhanyasi, revathi and sivaranjani. The javalis were sung with a lot of bhavam and their clear diction made it very enjoyable to listen to. The suratti padam (in malayalam) was simply superb and it made me wish that the concert lasted longer.
The co ordination between the percussionists was very good. i heard that Sri Karthik(Toronto) who played kanjira is a disciple of Sri Karaikkudi Mani.

swarakalpana,
Nagai Sriram is an impressive violinist. Any comments about his playing?
There would have been at least one other forumite there, I would think...
