Concert At TTD on 11-10-2009
The concert started with Nee Daya Radha in Vasantha Bhairavi (i have never heard this as a first piece) and the other song lists go thus : -
Rama Ninne --Husseini-Adi-T
Raghuvara nannu-- Panthuvarali-Adi-T
Ayameva Ayameva-- Mohanam -- K Chapu--Annamayya
Rangapura--Brindavana saranga--Rupakam-- MD
krupayapalaya --Charukesi--M Chapu-ST
Telisite Mokshamanu--Hamsanadam-- Rupakam--Annamayya
Koluvaiyunnade--Devgandhari-- Adi-T
Srinivasa tava charanam- Kharahara priya--Rupakam--Papanasam Sivan
KArpooram naarumo--Khamas--K chapu-- NAchiyar Tirumozhi
Govinda --Janasammodini--Adi--PD
Tamburi meetidava--Sindhubhairavi--(Eka tisra nadai)
The concert was a relaxed one with Vijayalakshmi providing an ease of listening. While showing her vidwat on raga renditions she also equally showed her skills on Niraval and swara passages. The concert mix and choice of songs has a deep impact on the listeners and also shows the high calibre of the artiste about her experience in this field. A mix of popular kritis with some uncommon kritis rendered in between creates a sense of inquisitiveness in the audience which is a welcome sign for any carnatic musician.
Her ragas were neatly rendered and Kharaharapriya was excellently rendered. Srinivasa Thava Charanam of Papanasam Shivan in Rupaka Tala (2 Kalai) with niraval and swaram really captured the audience attention and elevated them to a high plane of aesthetic beauty with technical brilliance.
VVS Murari was in his elements on that day providing excellent accompaniment and his solo version of Kharaharapriya stood out for its melodic appeal. His variation in violin with five strings (instead of usual 4 strings) gives some additional scope for him to explore the ragas and he is quite adept in doing so too.
Myself and A.S.Krishnan played a Tani for about 12 mins in Rupaka Tala 2 Kalai Kriti.
Overall a relaxed and enjoyable concert.
