Hi,
I am very new to this site.So happy to see such a wonderfull & knowledgful site which gives immense
treasure of knowledge in Music, Dance & Varied Varities. am thankful towards one & all for their
involment to make this attempt a success.
The doubt which am having is about "KALAPRAMANA"
A Varnam in Music/Dance will be starting in slow speed & it will be moving forward in the same speed
till charanam. The doubt arise hereafter that i have seen so many starts the charanam with the same
speed what they continued from the beginning / speed which suits them.(their own)
ie; a little bit fast
Actually how the KALAPRAMANA for CHARANAM should be ? Is that should be double the speed of
what we starts from the beginning or .............................?????

Unless the singer is much acquainted with singing or playing music along with ‘Metronome (the Tala-machine)’ it is very difficult to be precise with the rhythm (Kaalapramaanam).
Any composition or its constituent parts can also be practised in singing different speeds to get reasonable control over rhythm. Some of the musicians are also used to sing the constituent parts of some of the compositions in different speeds to create good effect in their concert. However, just like any person having the same length of two hands or legs or the same shape of either eyes, ears or nose it is desirable to sing the entire compostion in the same speed and it is a healthy discipline to maintain. But, while singing the Uttaranga of any Varnam in different speeds or in different Gatis, there is every possibility of commiting a mistake unless the singer is acquainted with all the needed rhythmical implications of it. amsharma
