It was a great concert. The choice of ragams and kritis was very interesting and the presentation was wonderful too. The kritis were rendered beautifully. The AlApanais of vasantA, hamsanAdam, aTANA and shankarAbaraNam were all very classical, moving and fitting the kritis that were being presented. The neraval and svarams were all measured and presented fittingly. The renditions of the padams and javali were moving. The accompanists did a very good job in accompanying.

Fairly long hibernation from you. Any more inputs (atleast her guru's name)on sarayu srinivasan, this violinist is new to me.

kuvalayAkshirO and yAla padarE , i just googled to find that K that you refer is Kshetrajna.
paripAlincu - suddha sAvEri - kANDa cApu - Ramaswami (S)
Is paripAlinchu-sudda sAveri- tiruvisainallur venkataramana bhagavathar?? one , popularized by semmangudi.

indeed. was down with fever, cold, cough, etc... for a couple of weeks. feeling much better presently..

Smt. Alamelu Mani is a disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi T Brinda. Smt. Sarayu is the disciple of Smt. Alamelu who provided vocal support for the concert.

The violinst Sri VVS Murari is the son and disciple of Violin Maestro Sri VV Subramanian.

could be. When asked about the composer, Smt. Alamelu mani said 'ramaswami', but wasnt sure. I think Thirukkarugavur Sri Srinivasaraghavan, sang this kriti in his iit concert last april, and he mentioned the name of Thiruvisanallur Venkataramana Bhagavathar as the composer. I dont know the correct detail. It is probably that of bhagavathar and Smt. Alamelu was confused with the question as the next song she presented was a composition of Thiruvarur Ramaswami Pillai. Or is it a case of questionable authorship. i dont know.

in that suddha sAveri krithi , i remember someone telling me that the scintillating set of chitta swarams were added/composed by semmangudi mama himself.. Any inputs on that ?

Bharath,
I was wondering if it was exams which kept you busy. Sorry to hear you were not well. Good to have you back.
The concert was in honor of a young professor who was a great rasikA, if I'm not mistaken.

yes. Dr. D Veeraraghavan (fondly known as Dilip to many) was a faculty in the Humanities Dept and was an ardent rasika of classical music. He was also instrumental in getting many of us students of IIT (including yours truly) to get kindled by the right kind of music. He left us in February, fighting cancer. It was a homage to him on his birthday.

and thanks to all for the corrections :)

and for the concern about me. was down with some viral infection for a couple of weeks. i m almost back to normal now :)

I urge each of you to attend music concerts in IIT-M . Neat blue chairs , right AC, pin drop silence and above all Sound 'SOUND ENGINEERS'.

bharath/srikanth1981/sathej & all other folks,
Even though you keep it open the end time of the concert, I always see the concerts generally wrap in 2 hours +, it would be nice if it is 3 hours with a mandatory RTP ;) .Atleast I will be occupied for 3 hours =) and have a satisfaction , instead of writing a clueless IIT-JEE entrance examination paper

Smt.Alamelu Mani s first guru was her late husband Sri.Mani who was known as Chellamani Sir in Mumbai in those days.I think she got the presidents award in the AIR competition long back. She is ,as we all know the mother of playback singer Hariharan. She is ofcourse a student of Smt.Brinda also.Sri.chellamani sir had trained many students who are famous musicians today ,one of them being the Bombay Sisters.
