Another excellent concert from Sanjay.

Accompanists - Nagai Murali - Violin, Guruvayoor Dorai - Mirudangam, T.V.Vasan - Ghatam

1. Varnam - Kedaaram ( It was announced as a composition of Tiruvottriyoor Tyaga Iyer. Have never heard this before. It sounded like a pada varnam with sahityams after the swarams and also was in Roopaka taalam.)

2. Brovasamaya - Gowrimanohari (Nice brisk pace with kalapana swarams.)

3. Paravataraaja kumaari - Shriranjani (Alapana with a lot of brighaas. But no kalpana swarams)

4. Raama ninnuvina - Shankaraabharanam (Only neraval and swarams)

5. Ennadu jootuno - Kalavati

6. Evarimaata - Kambhoji (Superb alapana with neraval and swarams and tani avartanam.)

7. Chinna naadena - Kalanidhi (Probably a tribute to flute maestro Ramani who was also present in the audience.)

8. Pranathaarthihara - Ragamalika (Starting with Shriraagam and followed by the first 12 melakarta ragams. First time I am litening to this piece in a live concert. Superbly rendered.)

9. Maamava pattaabhiraama - Manirangu (Surprise rendition with alapana, neraval and swaram. This was a nice addition when people were expectin an RTP. The swarams at the 3 points in Navarathna mandape was marvellous.)

I had to leave after this piece. Overall a typically wonderful Sanjay concert with alapana highlights and surprises in the song list. This is what I like most about Sanjay. He is able to really keep even regular listeners engaged with intelligent use of his vast repertoire that seems to keep expanding all the time.

Nagai Murali on the violin is today probably the top most accompanist and Sanjay shares a very good rapport with him. Guruvayoor Dorai on the mirudangam though loud at times really lifted the concert. T.V.Vasan was also good.
