Nagai Sri Ram on Violin and VaidyaNathan on Mridangam
The concert stared with Saveri varnam followed by these wonderful items
Chalamelara in Marga Hindola by St.Thyagaraja
Brochevaarevare in Sri Ranjani by Thyagaraja
Eti Yochanalu Jesevuraa in Kiranavali by Thyagaraja
Bagaayenayya in Chandrajyothi by St.Thyagaraja
Ninnu Juchi in Sourashtra by Patnam Subrahmanya Iyer
Paahimam Sri Raja Rajeswari in Purnachandrika by Ramaswamy Sivan
Kasi Visalakshi in Purvi Kalyani by Dikshitar
Devi Brova in Chinthamani Syama Sastry
Pakkala Nilabadi in Kharaharapriya Thyagaraja
Abhimana mennadu galgunura in Vivardhani Thyagaraja
Kalyani RTP in Chaturasra Rupakam (2 kalai) - Raaga maalika in Dhanyasi, Bilahari, Sivaranjani, & Bhupala. Pallavi was sung in all ragas followed by swaras. The ragas selection was brilliant and audience were spellbound by the emotion created from these ragas
Continuing with the same mood, they picked up St. Annamayya's Adi Deva Paramathma in Revathi. Somebody in the audience mentioned, Sri Seshachary composed this in Revathi. A refreshing tune unlike many of the beaten up Annammayya movie like tunes.
The concert ended with Mangalam.
The entire concert was simply superb. Sri VaidyaNathan's mridangam accompaniment was good and supportive of the artists.
Sri Nagai was good but the only distraction he created was by putting the violin in the box. I wasn't surprised as I read similar incident though I didn't expect that it might be a routine for him.
Don't know what Nagai is trying to tell but this is not the right forum. Here is what the maturity of the vocalists showed. Though they are senior artists, they kept their cool and smile and appreciative of the accompanists through out the concert.
Apart from this minor incident, the concert was memorable. It was such nice treat for us in Indianapolis where we don't get many chances like this.

Wonderful to read all these positive reviews of the Hyd Brothers' tour. Can't wait for their San Diego concert on Friday! I don't understand all this business with Nagai Sriram...

Well, a similar incident happened in chicago... as Sri. Seshachari started outlining the meaning of one composition, Sr. Sriram was about to put the violin down, but the brothers smiled and signed to him that it will be a just a few seconds. Since sriram was smiling, i didn't read too much into it...

ForCarnaticMusic: I think the mere mentioning of normal things like the violinist putting the violin down and also characterizing it as an 'incident' makes it an incident. They are on tour and I assume they travel together. I would think there are ample opportunities to communicate with each other about such concert logistical issues. Also, what kedharam mentions is a normal thing for a violinist to do.

VK,
Yes, the less said about it, the better.
You might have seen the other thread too, where there is more of it, and I was wondering what it was all about.
By the way, his playing is very good.

VK,
I agree with you, may I be I shouldn't have added comment about Sri Nagai. Looking at their tour schedule, I am sure they will have to get along well, that wasn't my point. Living is US, these concerts are rare opportunities for us, given the effort we take to attend the concerts any minor incidents like this can be a big deal at times I guess. Once again I am re-iterating that it was a great concert and I am glad I attended.

I wouldnt read too much into it...we can never know what exactly is going on. There may be a number of off-field/concert incidents that have lead to tension. Not all main artists treat their accompanists well. The best thing to do would be to ignore it :)

Dear rasikas,

This is Nagai Sriram.

As Sucharithra has alluded to, people who are throwing dirt on me, should do so upon having all the information. I am deeply saddened by the amount of dirt being thrown around. Usually I do not get dragged into such discussions and stay away from them. But my reputation is at stake here and thought I should make an exception and share my thoughts. When my professionalism is being questioned, I have to make a statement and respond.

Those who have made comments about my actions either do not have all the details of the exchange between the brothers and I, on stage, or chose to ignore that, to besmirch me. If you are hoping that I will stoop down to their level and throw more dirt the other way. You are thoroughly mistaken. I am just going to take high ground here and just say that as god as witness, there are two sides to a coin. There are two sides to a story. All that I request the rasikas that are posting in haste is to make sure you do so, with all facts on hand and pass judgement based on that. Not just hearsay. That is all that I am going to say about this.

Peace,
Nagai Sriram.

Welcome, Nagai Sriram!
Good that you are here. This puts an end to speculations. You can speak for yourself instead of others building on their own impressions. Anyway, the observers did not say that you lost your cool. Nor did rasikAs sling mud at you, if I understand all this.
Not being given a chance at all to play can frustrate an accompanist--that's understood too. There was an occasion when a violinist played so little in a concert. Even when the vocalist who is known for his humility gestured every now and then with all goodwill, the violinist still did not relent. On that occasion, I was frustrated because I regretted that the concert would have been even better, had he cooperated.
We as rasikAs do not know the background to all that happened in your case. What we know is what we see. Yes, we needn't be privy to them either. What we look forward to as listeners is a concert which is the result of the performers on stage interacting creatively and amicably and giving their best.
Please do not take all this to heart. We as rasikAs should behave responsibly and in a mature manner too :)

Welcome to the forum. Your uncle nagai muralidharan is one of the finest accompanist , you are indeed getting very close to your uncle. Best wishes on your tour. It is always nice for you to communicate directly. Best wishes for your remaining tour with hyderabad brothers and any more artists if you are playing in US before kutcheri season.
