Smt Vallabham Kalyanasundaram & Sri Mayuram Viswanatha Sastri Memorial Concert by Vid Neela Ramgopal at Sree Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, Banashankari, Bangalore.
Vid Neela Ramgopal will be accompanied by Vid Charulatha Ramanujam on the violin and Vid Arjun Kumar on the mridangam.
Another awsome, blemishless concert from vidhushi. I don't think words can describe the concert, nor i will be able to do justice. Excellent team work. Neela mami started with brief sketch of kalyani and ata tala varnam in two speeds.
After that, mami started with valachi ragam, exploring all details on madhya stayi and mandara stayi for about 10 minutes, and sang till tara shadjam. There was a brief graha bedam, resulting in kalyani(?). Smt Charulatha's turn then. She played equally well for about 10 minutes. Neela mami then resumed tara styai sancharams in valachi, and then sang hindolam. Here also she did very brief graha bedam in hindolam to ?(kalyani??). While ending the raga, she did rapid transition from valachi, hindolam for about 3,4 times. Charulatha's reply was also interesting, and while ending she also did rapid transition from one raga to another, about 8 times or so. Tanam started with valachi and was detailed with different rhythamic patterns and combinations for about 10 minutes. Charulatha also excelled in her thanam playing here, reproduced almost everything mami sang. Then mami sang hindolam thanam for 2 minutes, and completed with transitioning between one raga to another atleast 5 times. Violin response continued with hindolam, and ended with transitioning from one raga to another.
The pallavi was quite tricky, with valachi in purvangam and hindolam for uttarangam. I can't comment on any of laya aspects, mami did trikalam though. After swaras in valachi and hindolam, arjun kumar played wonderful tani for 10 minutes. Ragamalika swaras followed after that, and it was pretty detailed too. While ending, mami sang swaras in all ragas in reverse order starting from mohana kalyani to hindolam, valachi, each raga sung for an avarthana.
The virutham(not sure what it is called in kannada);- was very detailed, and i liked the lyrics chosen (resembled like petra tAi tanai). After kapi devarnama, she sand few lines in sri as mangalam, and lyrics was equally interesting. I tried to copy down the lyrics as much as i can, then googled out to findout, and i provide it below along with meaning..
Summary, an excellent and awsome concert, to be remembered for long long time. Even though both valachi, and hindolam are avudava ragas (with D and N common!) it was very great to hear.
