As usual, the organizers started the concert on time with a very brief introduction of the artists. RKS began the concert with the popular nattai krithi 'Jaya jaya'. After a brief alapanai in Ravichandrika, he played 'Ma kelara'. Varali alapanai was outstanding and one could clearly hear the sahityam when he played the famous krithi 'Seshachala nayakam'. There was neraval on the line 'Aravinda patra nayanam govindam uraga sayanam'. he then played a brief alapanai in Ananda bhairavi before taking up o Jagadamba. RKS mentioned that the Chitta swaram in the thodi krithi was composed by Balaswamy dikshitar, brother of muthuswamy dikshitar and the speciality of it which started as 'G;RS GR GG... was that it has all variations of Gandhara. I was totally moved by the rendition of soundara rAjam which he played in extremely slow tempo. There was no RTP as there were several requests for thukkadas and RKS did not want to disappoint the rasikas. It was an outstanding concert and I am sure the small crowd which came to attend the concert would have thoroughly enjoyed it. It was funny when the organizers read out a 'posting' made by one of the rasikas in this forum during vote of thanks while describing RKS' performance.

music_is_life,
Nice to hear that vote of thanks was lifted from rasikas.org(My gut feel would be the thread taken from http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php? ... kumar.html ). Very nice spread of compositions . Also nice to see a review of RKSK after a long 2 or 3 weeks gap .

Rajesh, You're right on. It was indeed the posting of Bilahari which was read out!

VarALi and tODi for submain and main is an interesting combination. I tend to group both ragas together based on mood. RKSK is presenting such a delectable array of compositions in each concert of this tour. It is a real pity he won't be playing in San Diego!

It is indeed funny to hear that posts made on this site are being quoted in votes of thanks!

That makes you mArttANDam bilahari since you are worth quoting (without quotes in this case!). mArttANDam--the sun. Wasn't there a movie in which Gemini Ganesan plays the title role? Hope I got it right and it is not bhairavi mArttANdam.
If this practise without quoting goes on, gn.sn to the rescue with his wise words on copyright! Just kidding :)
