Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you all for Shri Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi Aradhana in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The Aradhana, the first of its kind in the Americas, initiated last year, will be conducted by IFCM and Nadopasana in conjunction with the DFW Hindu Temple Society.
Shri Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi's (1700-65) stature as a musician, a trendsetting and pioneering composer, a reformer, and a thinker par excellence is increasingly known today. But, above all else, one cannot fail to recognize what a humble devotee he was of the Lord. It is indeed a great honor to pay our humble tributes to such a great gem adorning our world of music.

The OVK Aradhana will be held on Saturday, 07 November 2009, at 1:00 pm in the Main Sannidhi of the DFW Hindu Temple in Irving, TX.

We will begin with an invocation and the group rendition of OVK Saptaratna krtis led by none other than Smt Lalita Seshadri, one of the most respected Musicians, senior disciple of Semmangudi Sri Srinivasa Iyer and Dr.M Balamurali Krishna, which will be followed by individual performances.
Venkata Kavi's Saptaratna krtis are now widely acknowledged as the pioneering compositions with a structure that comprise a pallavi, anupallavi and multiple charanams that can be rendered as swaras and lyrics, (a form similar to Tyagaraja Pancharatna). Venkata Kavi used the ragas Nattai, Gowla, Kalyani, Keeravani, Todi, Paras and Madhyamavati for his pieces. We also invite students and music lovers to listen and/or learn some of the Saptaratnas as well as other masterpieces from the Free Online OVK Audio Bank at

As most of you are aware, many of OVKʼs compositions are adorned with magnificent melodic and rhythmic structures which portray the blissful and joyous state of Jeevatma experiencing the unity with Paramatma. Several have been composed with jatis and patterns eminently suited for dance. Our exceptionally talented Dance teachers have choreographed some of these beautiful compositions and will be presenting them.

Once again, we cordially invite you with family and friends for this celebration and look forward to seeing you all on this auspicious and joyous day.
Best Regards

Vasundhara Kikkeri
