It was a wonderful evening to remember . The concert by Vid. NAgaraj, Manjunath and the entire team was such a memorable and enjoyable one.
The concert was organized by SuswarAlayA College of Music run by eminent percussionist H.S.Sudeendra. Before even writing about the concert, I'd like to mention about the audience first. It was a really mixed audience - ranging from a few months old baby to school kids and elders. And all the students of the college seated down in front and keeping talam to all the songs - it was a treat to watch as well !
The concert began with audio problems that were to nag the until the end but the music of NAgaraj and Manjunath made all these problems seem like nothing ! The concert began with a valachi alapana followed by jAlandhara. The next was a song in SindhurAmakriya. After a brief but wonderful alapana in sahana, vandanamu was next. This was followed by a quick and rapid fire garuDadhwani ragam and tatvameruga taramA.
Vid. NAgaraj played an elaborate and pristine tOdi. I was hoping for a dasaratE or jEsinadella. KaddanuvAriki was rendered with excellent neraval and swaraprasthAras. The tani that followed was exquisite. Mannargudi Eswaran and Giridhar Udupa almost lit up the hall with 'sara vedi' like playing. I cannot describe it enough except to say that the applause which followed the tani was almost as long as the time they played together during the tani. The audience simply did not stop clapping. And of course, no one in the audience stirred during the tani contrary to the usual exodus that we see.
The next was a nice but brief RTP in sucharitrA in khanda jaathi triputa tAlam. This was followed by ragamalika swarams in bAgEshrI and another ragam I could not identify. The concert concluded with pibharE rAma rasam in Ahir bhairavi.
Special mention needs to be made about the Vote of Thanks. It was a very different vote of thanks by Vid. shri H.S.Sudeendra with a lot of personal touch and warmth to it. Mannargudi Easwaran also spoke during this vote of thanks offering his praises for the percussion artists in Bangalore.
All-in-all a great concert by a very expressive team who appreciated each other and made the concert truly a team event.

I was fortunate to be present at the concert. It was a great experience to listen to the duo play. They are always great to listen to. Thodi was elaborate and excellent. Thani for the main piece was also good. But the thing that stood out was the RTP in Raaga Sucheritra. It was simply superb. Set to Khanda Triputa thaala (2 kalai). The first half of the Pallavi was set in Chatusra Nadai and the second half in Thishram. Excellently followed by both Pakkavadyas. This RTP was followed by a small Mohra and Korvai. Easwaran sir for the genius he is, played Mohra and a korvai maitaining the same pattern (1st half Chathustram - 2nd half thishram), taking both the main artists by surprise. Last but not the least, Udupa on the Ghatam was superb.
