mariverae Ananda bhiravi R P and S
RTP Kalyani N , S and Thani
Ramanamame Desh P
The concert started with a delay of 10 mts. and another 5 mints got wasted for arranging extra mikes after the varnam. Both sang in turn while playing vina. Kalyani RTP was with their alternate vocal delinetion of the raga . Both complimented each other for their vidwats.
Sowmya mentioned that Neyveli Narayanan [mirudangam ] and TV vasan [ ghatam} for their proficiency in vocal too and this concert was not a rehearsed one and played with their mano dharma. Neyveli praised the percussion artistes for their excellent performance and especially thanked TV Vasan for accepting to accompany this concert since Govindarajan could not attend due to his ill health.
Generally the concert was very good and all could enjoy their singinging too. The concert ended by 19 15 hrs and Malladi brothers commenced their performance by 19 35 hrs.
His first piece was a virutham in nattai bringing out all the names of vaggeyakkaras right from naradha , sarangadeva etc upto thyagaraja. I could not sit back to listen to him completely.

Two of the most awaited events in Chennai - Bharat Sangeeth Utsav and monsoon happened at the same time. I was forced to enjoy (endure ?) the monsoon and miss the concerts.
Hope this happens again

Could you be a bit more specific about what you hope would happen again? Rain and you missing the concert or just the concert?rajumds wrote:Two of the most awaited events in Chennai - Bharat Sangeeth Utsav and monsoon happened at the same time. The 'Neyveli' here refers to srI NSG, is it? With many artists playing many instruments, it is confusing - asking because it looks like Neyveli srI Narayanan was also on stage here.thanjavooran wrote:Neyveli praised the percussion artistes for their excellent performance and especially thanked TV Vasan

btw, what is the point in such exercises? get to gether, sing/play something for a while, be nice on stage - congratulate/compliment each other. Or was it in connection with some underlying theme for this utsav, which I am unaware of? I was wondering even when tmk/vijaysiva duets were being reviewed. but now, with vINai also added to the melee, i thought i would just ask what people here might like in such get-to-gethers (on stage) - may be i am missing something.
now, before this flares up, let me just state that srI NSG is one of the very few artists, whose concerts I look forward to. i remember hearing him in quick succession once at Shanmukhananda and a couple of days later at Mylapore. I haven't attended many concerts of Smt. Sowmya - ofcourse i am no one to comment on the vidwat she has.
I was a bit confused as to why such stalwarts would come together for a seemingly 'pointless' meeting on stage. Btw, are they playing vINai on AIR? Nat'l Program, AIR Chennai etc.
