A brief alapana of Atana was presented. The highlight of the concerts were the expansive alapana and swaraprastharam for Subhapantuvarali where the Brothers rendered the rarely-heard krithi of Sri Muthuswami Deekshithar, Pasupatheeswara. A quick Kotinalu in Todi followed and then came that masterpiece in Kambodhi, Koniyadina. A great tani avarthanam, though brief, was played by Sri Easwaran and Sri Vasan.
I had to leave at that point. It was almost 9:30 by this time. I expect there would have been some sankeerthanam by Annamacharya, Bhadrachala Ramadas and/or Purandaradasa as tukkadas after the Tani.
A great concert sans gimmicks. One could see and feel what oldtimers refer to as "gauravam" in this concert.
Pouring rain throughout the day kept quite a few people away from this wonderful concert. Those who came were definitely serious rasikas who expected to be pandered to, but by the likes of Sivapantuvarali - a Hindusthani raga - and Kambodhi and not by bhajans, abhangs or the Song of the Whales.
