Srividya is one of earliest student of Vid. Neyveli Santhanagopalan, and is a popular teacher in bangalore.
For a 1-1/2 hour concert, the presentation was very good and well organized. swarams for mayamalava gowlai were good and classical, had some janta prayogas also. chandrajyothi alapana was refreshing, i haven't heard this raga for some time now. It was a good choice up in the order. Nalinakanthi alapana was done well, vakra swarupa of raga was well made use of - swaras like S G R M G R stood out well. Bhairavi alapana was done leisurely, sancharams in mandhara stayi were done, srividya reached upto mandhara panchamam. Also, the sancharams around tara stayi rishabham is worth mentioning, particularly sangathi like p R n d p, p d n d p. Violinist also rendered the alapana well during her turn, and covered tara stayi quite well, but didn't touch much on mandara stayi. She was little obtrusive during some parts in swara singing, trying to reproduce and follow closely. It is heartening to see that srividya included two neravals for a 1-1/2 concert, in these days, we see just neraval for main or sub-main piece only - even for established artists. Ramanath gave good support in mridangam, and thani was very short.
I left with longing for a longer concert. Not sure, why organizers conduct such short concerts - start at 6.00pm and end at 7.30pm(;- Thank god, no in between speech. Garlanding was complete before concert, and brief vote of thanks was before mangalam.
