Their program starts on Decembber 1, 2009. Does any one know whether these concerts are broadcast on Jaya TV live ; if not when will they be braodcast on their TV ? Jaya TV is now available in the US through Dish TV. Knowing their broadcast schedule will help me decide whether to subscribe for Jaya TV or not. Their other programs are as bad as Sun TV's !

Generally they are not broadcast until the end of December when the season is at its peak.

A pity to see so few instrumentalists in their line-up. I know Ganesh/Kumaresh are usually regulars as is Shri Ravikiran. Their lineup mirrors what seems to be going on in many major sabhas in Chennai. Its a pity i think.

keen to get opinions of members who have seem a similar trend.

Dear Sundara Rajan

The schedule of this year's Margazhi Maha Utsavam is here - http://www.chennaidecemberseason.com/20 ... -maha.html
All these concerts will be on air on JAYA TV from the 15th of December, 2009 till the 13th of January, 2010

This info is based on the Press Release from the organisers Subhashree Thanikachalam and Manimaran.

With the risk of repeating this after last year's post.:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Jaya tv is no doubt doing a great service for carnatic musicians , but they beaming exactly between 15th December to 13th Jan timing exactly in the evening with the season is just keeping lot of rasikas hooked with the tv instead of moving to sabhas to watch the concerts.

# I have noticed lot of my relatives and friends and acquaintances proudly broadcasting that instead of going to sabhas they are comfortable watching the concerts at home

# Personally if they beam it either before or after then it is fine but exactly during kutcheri season that too beaming in chennai is bad.

# Also last year few sabha secretaries and patrons are voicing the same opinion that they should not beam it exactly during kutcheri season.

# But what can I say few years back a sangeetha kalanidhi musician told that I dont like the tv beaming as he/she also preferred rasikas to flock the sabhas , but all musicians in the pursuit of gaining publicity for themselves just trip each other . Of course a very small and miniscule subset get lot of mileage.

As such this is not just my opinion , but opinions of sabhas and musicians .Who is going to come out openly and bell this cat ?

I fully endorse the views of member rajeshnat. jaya TV can telecast the same between 6 to 7 AM or 6.30 to 7.30A.M so that attendance in concert halls is not affected.

All valid points. Even for those who attend concerts every day, the evening broadcasts during peak season mean that we miss out on Jaya TV concerts which often have a theme which is well thought out and executed by the artistes.

In the UK with regards to football telecasting, TV operators are banned from telecasting matches that kick off at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, traditional match day so that stadium attendances do not suffer. However due to the money theh offer, we get matches played at 12:30pm, 5:30 in the evening etc to get around this ban.

Maybe Jaya TV and a few sabha secerataries can get together and come to an arrangement so that there is a balance. On the other hand, mArghazhi mahOtsavam programme will become a misnomer if broadcast on a different month.

As a person who neither can attend in person nor see Jaya TV, I am just jealous :)

There are different views about the timings and dates of Jaya tv's kutcheri telecasts. But one praise worthy aspect of this channel, apart from Podigai is its devotion to carnatic music without caring for advt revenue gobilalitha
