Sriram gangAdharan is one musician who is slowly getting into my books as a very sincere musician , following the paddanthara of the GNB in full. He is most of the times not getting adequate crowd for the musicianship that he possesses, but certainly who ever comes in as a rasika listen intently.

I was late missing the first number , he began this GKB no poorvikalyANi , keeping up the speed of GNB paddanthara and his swaras were excellent , neraval was just there. Shyama , a rAga usually pushed as a emotive and slow moving tukkadA was promoted up , his alApanai was excellent ,when he sang shyama so fast with brighas, I was worried he may drop into Arabhi land but he did not . TOdi was a bit dampener, lyrics were not heard that clean.

The concert was at its best in the kAmbOdhi main, cascading brilliantly with speed and brighas , his eduppu itself of the alApanai was lovely, the krithi rendition was excellent , but what stood out the most was his 15 minutes swaras . O gosh it just poured out so heavily with 6 mins nonstop madhyamakAla swaras without violin return ending with ga ma pa mA gA , he continued in his gAgA fashion with some excellent mel kala swaras , all along the mridangist was maintaining sustained sarvalaghu.

Sriram has a weakness of always pressing accelerator and he appears not too keen in touching the brake and singing few vilambakAla kritis , after non stop kAmbOdhi , he continued his aggresssion with two tukkadas in shenjurutti (did I hear faint touches of kuntalavarali or is this chidamabaram pogamal a krithi that starts with shenjurutti and ends with kuntalavarAli, donot know that for sure). ShanmughapriyA tukkada that came in some vintage thamizh film was bit tiring .

I only wish this brilliant brigha inbuilt sriram should focus on slowing down a bit . Being a thamizh krithi based concert a viruththam with some slow moving numbers will do a great deal for sustaining interest for rasikas.

chandramouli played today far more better than the last concert that I attended here few days back with dr sunder , shruthi suddham was there , and his playing generally being little slow paced was the only brake for the breakneck gangadhA RAN ;).balashankar was sarvalaghu master , with lots of sangathis and swaras being sung in long cycles his sarvalaghu taps matched up well. Murali provided very good support . I did not concentrate on his tani much .

All said ,sriram is a very pure paddanthara musician and he is to me the closest overlap to GNB in the present generation.Every time I used to wonder if he sings numbers popularized by his guru Shri S kalyanarAman, but I always get only his parama guru touch. Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 hours and 5 minutes.

The theme for this concert was given as "Post-Trinity" Tamil compositions, iirc. I'd been thinking that would make it almost entirely PS, with some other random composition here or there.

But GKB, even though he was born when the Trinity (at least Thyagarajaswamy) were still alive, is much younger, and so including him as Post-Trinity for such a theme was a very good idea. :)
