I happened to attend a unique Arangetram a couple of months ago and as it is still lingering in my mind I wanted to share with the forumites:
The hall was overflowing with a huge crowd as the curtains opened at the appointed time and two sisters started with the not often heard Ata thala varnam in Reetigowlai. There were no sruti or laya lapses, the audio System was perfect and the concert was off to a great start. Invocation to Lord Ganesa was through the rendition of ‘Shakti Ganapathim’. There was a brief neraval on the line ‘BhanukoTi samhAram’ followed by swaram in second speed. A brisk sourashtram followed this and then the elder sister (Kamya) sang kalyani ragam. The neraval line on ‘Thamarasa dala.."

music_is_life,
VEry very nice review, actually this is the first artist who is the second generation disciple of TNS whom we all know(I dont know any of them who have sung in concert platform as a 2nd generation disciple of TNS yet). You please continue reviewing , will write more after downloading and listening.

That lalitha especially nannu brovu, all of them from tns and his disciple paramparas just flows so wonderfully, infact lalitha_is_life , as it is one of main pulse points of carnatic music. All 4 are disciples of artists who are well respected for their vidwat and delivery. Are these two girls sisters?

Thanks, Rajeshnat for your comments. I look forward to your review comments and also those of the other learned members of this group. They are sisters- the elder one is in University of Michigan pursuing under graduate course in pre-medical and the younger one in 11th grade

Thank you very much music_is _life, i enjoyed your review and the clippings alot.
The girls have performed very well, they seem to have all the right ingerdients to make it big.
It has been a long long time since i have attended a vocal arangetram, they are totally outnumbered by bharathanatyam arangetrams which seem to happen every weekend :P - where i live anyway.
Please post more clippings and the brochure if you and the girls dont mind.
I hope they are okay with you posting this here for all of us to enjoy :)

Ps. Is this the same kerthana that played violin for toronto bros recently?

His daughter Sriranjani Santhanagoapal would also qualify as a 2nd generation disciple of TNS :P
She has also released an album with charsur recently, for those who are interested :)

Rasika911.. I am glad you enjoyed the review which motivates me further to write. You won't believe this ... I have been visiting this site since the Sangeetham.com days and still I made my first post only about 9 months ago! In fact you have given me another interesting topic "Live orchestra in dance arangetrams in US" which has been in my mind for a long time and let me pour it out in a different thread.
Semmu86... I recorded the entire song.. however I cut out the thani for a reason. You might have observed how well the accompaniments played especially for the kuraippus almost anticipating each variation. However during the thani there was a minor mistake. A lesser mortal would have probably wrapped up the thani knowing that most of the audience would not have noticed it. To the credit of the youngster on stage, knowing that a great Vidwan is in the audience , put in the effort to correct the error which unfortunately stretched the time limit for the thani. Out of respect for this youngster whom I admire a lot for the passion he shows in his music I did not include it in the clipping.

P.S: Rasika911..Yes, it is the same Keerthana who accompanied Toronto brothers on the violin recently

I met the sisters at a social gathering yesterday and learned that their concerts in Chennai have been arranged through the 'Cleveland Aradhana Committee' It is indeed laudable that Cleveland Sundaram is taking the efforts to show case the talent from North America in an unbiased manner following a rigorous process of selection judged by the likes of Dr Ramani, Mrs Suguna Varadachari etc. Kamya- Keerthana will be performing at four venues in Chennai between 25th Dec and 4th Jan ( I believe there is one at Vani Mahal or Music Academy)including a concert in Vani Mahal besides a 15 minute slot of performing at the Thyagaraja samadi at Thiruvaiyaru on 5th January.
Rajesh/Arasi.. could you download the clippings?

I only heard their todi alApanai and krithi . The sisters have very good synchonization and azhuttam, when hearing this krithi I just went back to Shri TNS rendition of the same krithi , to an extent that padanthara is evident especially in few kanakku swaras like tns, kudos to madurai sundar of training them.I also liked the alApana having lot of nAdaswara piDi

I did not download amma ravammA,that day the download did not allow me, will try and let you know later.

Can someone tell me how to post a picture? I spent an hour yesterday and couldn't figure it out. I looked at a few posts which had a picture and still could not get it!
Rajesh... I have been listening to concerts for over 20 years now and still cannot write the nuances of the concerts the way you and many people in this forum do. I have learned music for a few years but struggle to understand the technical words. I bought six volumes of Prof. Sambamurthy's book in my last trip to India. I find it very hard to comprehend everything he talks about. Can you suggest some book which will help me appreciate a concert at the next level? I feel that my 'rasanai' skill has got stagnated after a very few years of rapid learning.

1. Go to http://tinypic.com/ and upload a picture.
2. Copy the URL where the picture is uploaded, this will look like http://i36.tinypic.com/i4odud.jpg
3. Paste the URL in your post here between the image tags ([img]paste%20the%20url%20here[/img]) and submit your post.

Thanks, SRKRIS, It worked well and didn't take more than 1 minute to follow your instructions. Perhaps, the moderator can include this in the HELP section so that non-computer literate people like me can benefit.

I have uploaded a picture of the sisters after taking their permission. You will be able to relate to this thread just in case you happen to hear them in one of the concerts in Chennai. They are performing at
MGR- JANAKI college from 2-4PM on 27th Dec and at VANI MAHAL on 3rd Jan from 4-6PM. I don't have the details about their other concerts
