Good concert packed with energy. nAttai, gowLa, Arabhi, varALi, shrI, nArAyaNa gowLa, kEdhAram, bhouLi and reethi gowLa
were the n(f)ine rAgams. The swaras for ‘mAmava maragatha ‘ were sung with nice poruththams.
Poruththam is singing swaras in a pattern which would match the construction of the first word in the line.
Singing sa sa, sa,,,, ni ni, ni,,,, dha dha, dha,,,, pa pa, pa,,,, and beginning with matha bEdhamaNe in vinathA sutha is a poruththam.
Mohan sang sA, sa sA, rI, ri rI, gA, ga gA, leading to mAmava"¦ and some nice varieties like that.
bhairavi alapana was good and that krithi had no niraval or swara, yet satisfying. He sang a little alapana of senjukamboji
and the audience seemed a bit puzzled and he announced the name of the raga and explained though it looks like mALavi,
pa ma ga ma ri sa will come in that that, while senju has pa ma ga ri sa. After the krithi of swarna venkatesa dhikshithar,
he took up mohanam for main. His efforts to retain the weight of alapana and the developments done stage by stage were
nice. The prayogas in the lower octave were good and the thanam provided extra grip for the pallavi’s laya exercises.
krishNA mukundhA giridhAri"¦ hE prabhO"¦. was the pallavi.
(//Krish,NA/,, mu/ kun, dha/,, gi/ri dha,//ri,,/,, hE//,, pra/bho,,)
He sang swaras for Krishna and giridhari. He rendered swaras in ‘rasika’priya and revathi. Kalyani Shankar was great throughout
the concert. I played a mora suitable for that particular thALam (30+24) and Shankar did well too.
Then the concert moved towards end with kANa vEndAmO, enna thavam and thillana.
A good concert on the whole.
