kalarasana is one of my favourite sabhas, the sound system is the best with a slope where one can easily have eye contact , ofcourse the only problem there is the usually high airconditioning. Smt GV had a crowd of only 40 to 50 (This hall may house atleast 900 or so, but paying for a ticketed concert is a miracle ), the concert started on time.
GV has a very melliflous voice , her start in nAttai had a brief alApana with a very good viruththam and out popped margazhi thingaL in nAttai, this nAttai is usually not a very fast number as most of other nAttai , but still the words have a great charm spiced better by her voice.
HarikAmbodhi alApana was well done , but I was not that happy with her rendition of the krithi , the turns can be more quicker. Lathangi unfolded as a submain , her rendition of the alapana, krithi and neraval was well done , her swaras were bit short and not having the same impact as the krithi and neraval.
Smt GV voice has a predominant sowkhyam and has a considerably high shruthi suddham, I felt her bhairavi was top class very emotive with a well rounded neraval and the contrast of lathangi and bhairavi was apt and lifted the concert.
A fast rAMan ezhundaralinAn popuarized by KVN was sung just like a bhajana sampradaya tradition. The main was a sedate and contemplative sAveri, her alApana was very expressive , yesterday being a hanuman auspicious day, lot of krithis were centered on veera hanuman. The sAveri krithi was very nice and her swaras were bit short for a main , she slightly lost a bit of voice strength there.
She asked the audience if they are interested in hearing a pallavi or if she wanted to continue with krithis , few in the audience shouted pallavi and out popped a shanmughapriya rtp. The alApana was bit brief nevertheless was precise and quick , her tAnam was more alApanish and had mridangam support .The pallavi trikalam was well done and in swaras she sang swara rAga maliga for bilahari and another familiar raga that slipped . The swaras were not as perfect , little more longer swaras would have been better.
The rAgamALiga anumanai was emotive especially the bhageshri segment , the yamunA kalyAni viruththam and pibare ramarasam was the top pick. The vasantha thillana was not sung that well , she could have given more rAga bhavam.

Sanjeev gave very sharp returns for all the swaras , but every raga alApanai he was overshooting on proportion, the concert would have been a half notch better if his returns were not that long. skanda played with lot of energy but at times I felt there was not much nAdham but only loud sound(possibly because of little excess air conditioning) coming out of his mrudangam ,but overall he was very good.
The pick accompanist of the day was the kanjira artist Alathur rAjaganesh. He is just superb , lovely azhuttam ,patterns were crystal clear and to me he is one of the top pick kanjira artist of today.
Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 hrs and 50 minutes.

Smt.Gayathri is one of the artists in the current generation who plans her concerts very well and song selections are very relevant for the day. I had the oppurtunity to attend her concert at Sastri hall a cople of days back. This was organised by SAFE . The attendence was moderate, but the music was soulfull. Though I could not attend the full concert due to heady rain and work commitment. Couple of krithis which were the highlights were Harihara puthram of MD in vasantha , where the neraval & swaras were taken at pallavi line and the main Todi (Ninne Nammi of Syama Sastrigal) , which was rendered with the chitta swaram and the swara sahityam.
Exceptional control over the sruthi & the rendering was fully bhava laden.

I am yet to come across a presentation of Tyagarajar Kriti 'Kanna Talli' in SaavEri, at least in last 2/3 years. Such a nice kriti that too in favour of deity, other than T's ishta devatA

Harikesanallur Venkatraman had commented that Violinist Sanjeev's laya sense is not good' -
That be the case, Mr. Sanjeev should have heard TNS's RTP at MA - "laya, sulaya, sukhalaya, subramanya, sangita kalanidhe" His laya sense would have improved

Just because (ani) AnjanEya - son of vAyu (vAtAtmajuDu) - is present (unnADu) steadily (padilamuga) at the door itself (vAkiTanE)

I agree Smt GV is probably one of the best female musicians of the current generation. She has a unique style. There seems to be a natural flow to her music.
