For the last 3+ years my days have always started and ended with Shruti. The station keeps playing all the while when I'm home. I will miss you big time, Shruti!

It was a sad sad start to my day reading this in The Hindu: http://beta.thehindu.com/arts/music/article70539.ece. After 31st Dec 2009 there will no more be Worldspace services in India.

That is vey sad. I am not sure whether any other channel for CM is available within India.
But I am sure some other player will emerge.
But I discarded WS within a month of purchase. The reason being most of the time I seem to be
listening from my mp3 collection . I guess interviews are good. Their collection is not great.

This is bad news for my folks who were enjoying it every day.
Will all the recent economic boom in India - not a single company/entrepreneur to buy the rights (and right to use the technology) and satisfy needs of the local folks and develop that local market (not just cm)?
Many (economists type) folks here in the US think that "eventually" India and China would realize that there is way more growth potential in local markets than in the international market where the primary buyer is perpetually on an evergrowing debt (and repaying with a weaker currency). But so far they havent (which also has the nasty side effect of a weaker local currency pushing other prices up).

I wonder whether we're going to get our money back? I am one of those who renewed subscription just a couple of weeks back. I just called the customer care and I was directed to the website which seems to imply that I may have seen the last of that 2000 bucks I paid
Atleast it seems like a long haul before we get any kind of reimbursement.

How could they take renewals/subscriptions when a shutdown was imminent, sounds like daylight robbery to me!

Hi
If you miss Shruti
RadioWeb Carnatic is Live - from the people at Radio Shruti on WorldSpace
RadioWeb Carnatic is a new attempt at reaching Carnatic music to listeners through the web, so there are no geographical restrictions. The service combines the feel of radio with the ease of on-demand listening, where you can browse through a long list of Carnatic music programmes to listen to. Yes, these are prepared programmes, features and interviews where the songs are thematically presented and RJs take you through the programme giving you information about the song and the theme.
RadioWeb Carnatic also gives you the advantage of high quality audio and programmes that you can access and listen to at your convenience. You can try RadioWeb Carnatic completely for a week; beyond that, you can subscribe through a variety of attractive subscription packages.

Nice website, professionally done.
But free online radio stations are available. Something like shrutiradio.com offers 4 non stop channels covering vocal, instrumental under Carnatic and Hindustani.
So how many will go for this paid service is not known.
